TRAMP stamp!

Tramps stamps were very popular in the early through late 90's right (maybe earlier)? What were they called before being derided as "tramp stamps"? And what do serious "inkers" think about them?

I don't know what serious inkers think, since I just have one tat on my back, I don't qualify! But I've heard them called Butt Hats... or Target Practice... or Dog Tag... or Bumper Sticker... lol... people have good imaginations!

I looked it up on Wiki out of curiosity and it says the following:

In the early to mid-20th century, women with tattoos were heavily stigmatized, and were rarely found in middle-class society. Lower-back tattoos were popularized in the early 2000s, in part owing to the influence of female celebrities, including Britney Spears, Christina Ricci, and Pamela Anderson. The popularity of low-rise jeans and crop tops may have also spurred the increase in lower-back tattoos. Another appeal of tattooing the lower back is that there is little fat there, lessening the chance that images will become misshapen over time. Also, the lower back is often concealed, providing women the choice of when to reveal their tattoo. Although some male celebrities have lower-back tattoos, they are generally not worn by men.

Concerns have emerged that epidural catheters may cause tattoo pigment to enter interspinous ligaments and other areas, potentially leading to health problems. There is general consensus that epidural catheters should not be placed through irritated or infected tattoos. However, harm has not been clearly documented when placing epidural catheters through healthy tattooed skin; a review in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Journal concluded that "epidural catheter placement through lumbar tattoos is a practitioner's decision based on clinical judgment".

Eeeek well I'm glad mine wasn't an issue when getting an epidural for my daughters birth lol. I would have told them to cut that sucker out then give me the damn epidural haha

I have one. You can sort of see it here. I got it (and the obligatory tribal) years before I got the back piece.

I happen to be fond of tattoos and have to say that both of you are equally SMOKIN hot! Both the tattos and, uhm, the butts! :blushing:

My 16 year old boy and I were having a conversation about tats this afternoon... I personally don't like them, yet I've seen some that were simply amazing works of art. I told my son that (aside from the same "old skin with tats" argument) what you feel like "engraving" your body with now may be totally off from your personality in even just a few years. Just food for thought, ya know?

I had the same conversation with my daughter (now 20 years old). She got one that is hidden by everything except a bikini, thank goodness. (I wasn't so lucky with the piercings conversation.)

Your tat draws attention to your butt which (as another poster mentioned) is very nice!

I can totally agree! I wanted a tramp stamp, and I knew what I wanted for a really long time, then as I got older I found something that means more to me and different placement- SO happy I waited!

I don't have one and wouldn't get a "tramp stamp" not cos I think they look bad but just because if I were to get a tattoo I'd want one that goes down my side (like down my ribcage/to my hip IDK what I'd want it to be I just think those kind of tats are really sexy! Plus I want one I can keep concealed.

How painful were getting yours?

I have both... the lower back one I do not have a picture of... however this one I do... and I assure you... the side is a very tender spot and it took one 6hr session and one 3hr session.

I have 5 tattoos, including 2 back tattoos, one is up the top, from my neck to by bra-line. It's 2 butterflies (a big blue one for my son - 7, and a small pink one for my daughter - 3) with swirls and designs. I also have a little heart on the back of my right hipbone. It's almost 10 years old, and it's sadly very faded.

I've heard the bit of the epidural and "tramp stamp" .. but I've never seen an epidural given at the lower back. Mine was always in the middle, about bra-line level. I can see the concern if there was a higher up tattoo, or a very large back piece, but I never understood the concern about lower back tattoos.

I'd LOVE to get a tattoo on my side. Don't know what yet, and I need to get one of my feet fixed. I have zodiac symbols on one foot and 4 forget-me-nots with a swirl design around them.. but the swirl design is patchy in some spots and almost thick and black in others. ugh. the joys of tattoos sometimes..

I had "Forever Yours" written across lower back a few years ago as a note to my husband. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Very sensitive spot and apparently he likes it too as he kisses it every night.
