Been doing upper body every other day, but not satisfied with the feeling I get from the Lat Pull Down machine...:indifferent:

Tried the Seated Row today and really felt it...enjoyed it.

Any other thoughts for back exercises appreciated.

for the lat pull down what are your goals? to do a pull up?

if so you might get a better prep for that by doing it in a position where you're more hovering over the seat rather than sitting on it. it looks weird but you engage your abs muscles more which you would use in a pull up/chin up.

BB row is also good as well as the pullover. the pullover is good because it works both upper back and chest.

I make an entire day out of back exercises. I also go as heavy as my body can pull on all sets.

Deadlift first, as it takes the most out of you.
    Cable lat pulldowns.
    Bent Over Rows
    Cable Rows
    Stiff Arm Pulldowns

The last one I will run until my lats are just dead. I spend the next week feeling like I have rotweilers hanging by their teeth from the back of my armpits.

Deadlifts, squats, BB rows, DB rows. Deadlifts would probably be the best, imo.

    my back day is

back extensions hugging a 45lb plate
    bent over rows
    pendelay rows
and deadlifts until I want to puke
  • Pendlay Rows
    Deadlifts

Some body hip me to what a "pendelay row" is, please.... :embarassed:
  • Deadlifts
Wide grip pull downs (false grip)
    Behind the head pull downs
    Reverse grip pull downs
Cable rows..... but use i use the rope not the bar on these.
Finish it off with cranks 4 sets.........last one to complete failure.........

i go heavy on the pull downs about 5-8 reps.
on the cranks I do 3 sets of 20 reps at 70lbs then the last to failure. I use straps on the last set because my hands give out before my back does.

    that's what i do....... once a week.

To hit my whole back I do:

Pullups to warm up, start grip as wide as possible and bring it in slightly each set
Some sort of row with elbows in tight (bent over dumbbell row or cable row)
Some sort of row with elbows out wide (machine row or bent over barbell row)
Stiff arm lat pull-down, super set with the above.
Flys to Finnish off the the and upper back and rear delts, normally I superset a machine and a dumbbell fly

I do dead-lifts (which get the lower back), but do them as part of my leg routine
I do rear delts on a more upright angle as part of my shoulder routine

be careful on the d/l........ make sure ur technique is down before going super heavy or u will snap some stuff up.

This is solid advice. However, I'd modify it a bit. Find what works for YOU, not the millions of tools posting form check videos all over the internet. Most of the strongest lifters in history have used form that would give the modern know it alls fits that resemble seizures.

Also, OP, my routine isn't all that crazy really. I've only been back into lifting for a couple of months. You never know what you are capable of until you say "**** fear" and load up the bar or move the pin. :) My 335 DL is pathetic by most measures, but I forced myself to get there within a month and a half.

Pendlay row is like a barbell row except your back is horizontal and you set the weight down after each rep. I'm not a big lifter, but I like to look up new stuff. :)

I wouldn't say that you put the weight down after each rep, but more... tap the floor with it?

But these and deads. For sure.

weighted pullups, deadlifts, pendlay rows, incline bench supported rows, kroc rows (ALL HEAVY)

Why only upper body. You don't want chicken legs do you?
