Question for the girls:

How has the contraceptive pill affected your weight loss? I have just went back on it after 2 years of only using condoms and I'm worried about how it'll affect my (albeit slow) progress. Any advice?

Some pills make you gain weight as a side affect but it shouldn't affect you that much if you are active and healthy. The pill I am on has been said to make you gain weight but, since I was already heavy I couldn't really tell. My doctor told me that the average weight gain from a birth control pill for an active/healthy woman is between 2 and 5 pounds per year. The shot, however can make you can up to 10 per year. These of course increase with poor diet and lack of exercise.

    Hope this helps.

    Hiya,
I've been on Yasmin for ages. I have still lost weight fine. It hasn't made any impact on me :) x

Everyone is different. The pill never affected my weight, but the Mirena IUD did. The pill does affect some women's weight and Mirena doesn't affect some women's weight, so you're just going to have to wait and see.

    Hi,

Well in my experience the Pill hasn't affected my weight loss journey so far. I've been on Femodene for a number of years, which is a low dose pill anyway, and I'm lucky in that I haven't suffered any negative side-effects.

When I was first put on BC my nurse did point that the Pill can indirectly cause you to put on weight as in some cases it will increase your appetite and that's what you have manage...hope that helps!

I'm on a generic version of Ortho-Novum (six years) and it has never had any effect on my weight. Other than maybe growing a cup size, but that may not be because of the pill. I had no problem losing weight while still on the pill.

I don't use anything. However, I will agree with whom ever said the shot will make you gain weight. I used contraceptives for 20 years and the shot was the worse. Some people have no issue at all with it but the majority that I have talked to had an issue with weight gain on it. :/ Counterproductive, however the alternative will make you gain a whole lot more! ;)

The figures I've seen are 40% will experience the plethora of side effects from the shot. My best friend actually got really thin on the shot, but she had so many other problems because of it and then she had a miscarriage, which is very common, after she went off of it.

You couldn't pay me to get that thing.

    Thanks girls!

Guess I'll just have to be extra careful with how much I eat :)
