Just not eating enough!

I'm really struggling to eat enough calories. I've been a little bit ill recently which may be contributing but I'm just not hungry at all. Ever. I eat out of necessity and I've completely forgotten how to enjoy my food and/or eat enough! Every night at about ten/eleven I realise I've only eaten one meal so have to stuff myself with food I have absolutely no desire to eat.

Well, stuffing yourself probably isn't a good idea.

Was your appetite "normal" before you were ill? What sort of foods do you eat when you do have a meal?

One way to get more calories in without stuffing yourself is to eat more calorie dense foods - like nuts, avocados, olive oil, peanut butter, etc. Doesn't take a lot of those foods to add some good calories.
  • I was already finding it difficult to eat all my calories but I think being ill has exacerbated the problem.

My diet at the moment consists of lots of soup, vegetables, cottage cheese, rice, beans and fruit. I find it really fills me up but, to be honest, I'm not hungry when I eat, I eat because I know it's time to eat. I do drink tea pretty much constantly as well - perhaps the small amount of milk in that helps fill up my stomach.

Unless you are having other issues, I would just listen to your body and do what it says.

What's your exercise like? If you up that (or change it up) your body will most likely respond and start craving fuel.

I notice on your profile that you state that you are a binge eater. Given that, your inability to eat enough food is not an everyday thing.

I recommend talking to a professional who specializes in treating eating disorders.

I recommend searching MFP (in the groups section) for a group that contains people who either are or used to be binge eaters for support in breaking that habit and for tips in overcoming that disorder.
