Eliptical or Arc Trainer?

I recently discovered the Arc Trainer at my gym. It's the first time I've heard of the machine so I have tried it a few times. I could go for a long time on the eliptical machine and really enjoyed going further and further with every workout. However, I do 20-30minutes on the arc trainer and I just feel like it works me out so much more.. though it says I burn about the same amount of calories. I find, however, that I'm starting to despise it and not enjoy the workout.. but feel like it's better for me than the eliptical in terms of full range of motion in my movements. Does anyone have an opinion on either machine or what I should continue to work with or should I just see this as a challenge and let that motivate me. I just don't want to burn out.

It doesn't matter, do whichever you like more or whichever feels better to you. Or mix it up, do a different piece of equipment each day.
  • I've never heard of or tried an Arc Trainer, but if you are getting to the point of despising the workout, i'd say go with the elliptical most of the time. Make sure you still go hard, and try different resistances and settings and challenge yourself in that respect. I mean, exercise shouldn't be comfortable, but it can totally be enjoyable. Occasionally, maybe once a week, use the arc trainer to push yourself and get a more total body workout. Muscle confusion is definitely necessary. But don't force yourself to do something you're hating every day unless you start to love it... because if you just keep up a repetition of grueling workouts you hate, you're gonna burn out.

Mix it up...I do both of them . 10 min warmup on treadmill, 20 min on elyptical and 30 on the arc. Mix it up for a change of pace
