Any older moms (moms who've had children later in life, ya know...late 30's & into your 40's) success stories? I'd love to hear the "411" on how you did it???

When did you have your (last???) child/how old were you?

How much did you lose and how long did it take to get rid of the weight?

How did you lose the weight (what types of food and exercises, etc. did you do)?

How long have you kept if off?

What are you doing to maintain?

Thanks in advance for your replies! :flowerforyou:

I had two kids in my early 20's and my last two at age 34 and 35.

I didn't try to lose weight until well after I had my last two. I lost 113 pounds in exactly one year. No food was restricted. I ate a healthy diet, watched calories in and exercised fairly hardcore.

I've been on MFP for nearly 2 years so I'm approaching the 1 year mark of keeping it off.

Maintenance is much like losing it to me. Still watch calories in vs. calories out and I kept up with my exercise routine and active lifestyle.

Hi !! When did you have your (last???) child/how old were you? I had my last child at the age of 35. I have had 4 kids!

How much did you lose and how long did it take to get rid of the weight? I had to lose 20 lbs..mainly of stomach weight. It only took me 2+ months to do it!

How did you lose the weight (what types of food and exercises, etc. did you do)? I did an exercise program called Insanity by beachbody back in March of 2012. It was all or nothing for me so I went hard core to do this! I also used MFP at the same time watching what I ate. My diary is public so you can check it out.

How long have you kept if off? I have kept it off since June of 2012 and still going strong! I currently am working out to P90X. I stuck with beachbody because it was the only thing that worked for me.

What are you doing to maintain? I religiously used MFP. and I work out pretty much everyday when my 2.5 yr old sleeps :)

Feel free to add me :)

I have two boys, 15 months apart in age. I was 34 when my younger son was born, and I was 180+ for a couple of years after. I am now to to 150! I lost 30 lbs since the beginning of the year. For the 1st 100 days, I worked out every single day, burning at least 500 calories a day, and I religiously stayed under my calorie goal. If I wanted to eat more, I burned more. I joined fitness challenges on here, and using Beachbody DVD's at home, I won two challenges! The first 20 lbs were lost doing Rockin' Body, then the next 10 was with the TurboFire program. I'm now doing a P90x/TurboFire hybrid, and I hope to tackle Insanity soon. I've been stuck at this weight for 3 months now, because I have gotten lax with counting the calories, so I'm trying my damnedest to get back into it! I turn 40 in December, and I want to be on hot momma when that day comes! Working on toning up and losing perhaps another 10-15 if I can get that number to go down at all!

You other mommas are so amazing! 100+ lbs?!?! WHAT?!? Rock stars!!

I haven't read any replies, but here's my story.

When did you have your (last???) child/how old were you? I had my youngest child at 35, currently 38 years old.

How much did you lose and how long did it take to get rid of the weight? When she was 18 months old, I started exercising. It took me about 9 months to lose the weight.

How did you lose the weight (what types of food and exercises, etc. did you do)? I did 30DS and started C25K, when I finished that I ran 3-4 miles a day 4 or 5 days a week. I continued to do JM workouts 1 or 2 days a week.

How long have you kept if off? Over a year.

What are you doing to maintain? Mainly running 3-4 miles a day (upping it a bit lately for a 10K I registered for), still doing JM once or twice a week.

I had 4 children in my 20s and then had two more at age 38 and 40. I had never been thin. I was 155 when I got married and 165-175 throughout my 20s. I gained a little with each baby, and I was 180-195 throughout my 30's and during the last pregnancy knew I HAD to do something about it before I got too old.
So, I started weight watchers when she was 4 weeks old. It took me 9 months to lose from 195 to 155. I did absolutely no exercise, but breastfeeding did help.
After I lost the weight the fun began! That's when I started weight lifting and became a Zumba fanatic. Those things not only helped me keep the weight off, but showed me I had muscles in places I never knew! (discovering my glutes was memorable!!)
It took me 5 years to prove to myself that not only could I keep the weight off, but that there was a possibility that I could do so much more! I found mfp, and am on my way to 135 - a toned tummy - and my first half marathon!

When did you have your (last???) child/how old were you? I had my son when I was 36. (I'm 37 now.)

How much did you lose and how long did it take to get rid of the weight? From just before I had him to now, I've lost 55 pounds. (He weighed 7. :))

How did you lose the weight (what types of food and exercises, etc. did you do)? Watching my food intake, EXERCISE. And simply moving around more. He keeps me on my feet.

How long have you kept if off? I'd like to lose 10 more pounds.

What are you doing to maintain? n/a

    GOOD LUCK!

6 pregnancies between 30-40. 3 miscarried; 3 c-sections and 1 adopted. The 1st was born when I was 30; the last live birth I was 35 . I gained 50-60 lbs. each time, and lost the weight each time within a year with WW without working out.

Although I was very active prior to my first pregnancy, I pretty much had 9 straight years of being pregnant and/or nursing without working out.

After my last one was born at 35, I began working out again when he was 3 months old and have never stopped.

I kept my weight off every time. It's now been 9 years since my youngest biological child was born.

    My workout schedule includes:

15-20 hours ballroom / latin dance per week (I'm an instructor)
2 hours spin per week (instructor)
2 hours heavy lifting (100+ lbs) per week
    2 hours paddleboarding per week

I am also a road cyclist but not currently riding for a few months since just doing a 100-mile ride on 9/29. Prior to that ride I was riding about 3-4 hours a week to prepare.

I have had 5 children, I was between 30-39. I gained weight with every pregnancy, maybe an extra 10-15 lbs (aside from the actual pregnancy weight), except for my third...I was slim. I would lose it mostly after the pregnancy, and all of it after I stopped nursing.

My last pregnancy I gained a lot, as the pregnancy was a "surprise." I didn't prepare myself, and I never got ahead of it, so to speak. Normal weight for me has been 140lbs, but I was about 180 post partum!

I am in process of losing that weight, which is okay with me, as I do have fitness and a healthy lifestyle. It will come off:) I am currently 158, have adopted weight lifting, and am looking to be at about 22%bf or so, and whatever that weight will be:)
  • i have 4 children, i had my son when i was 27, a daughter when i was 29 and twin boys when i was 40! Didnt really gain much weight with the first two, but with the twins i was huge. lost most of the weight quite quicky but at the moment i am about 15 pounds heavier than i want to be , so trying to eat healthy to get rid of it!

Wow! You women are amazing!! I hope to be able to add a story like yours one day!

I have 2 children...my first when I was 30 and the second at 32. The weight packed on for me having them close (I breastfed until I was pregnant again, so quick weightloss was a no no, plus it made me sooooooooo hungry!!).

I just started day 1 of the 30 day shred last night (and boy do I feel it)...here's hoping!
