I wish I was making this up. But I have to say I've not stopped laughing since I saw this news piece about the PETA bill boards in Jacksonville Florida that targets overweight women.

It's just... heh. Well have a look see for yourself.
I'm off now to go eat a HUGE piece of steak. I'm following that up with some chicken, and perhaps even a pork chop.
Happy to be an omnivore...

Thats like anti-advertising. :laugh:0

Yeah, cause it's the MEAT that makes me fat, not the ENTIRE BAG OF DORITOS!
F--- PETA. :grumble:0 -
How many of us are out their eating Whale Meat??????:ohwell:0
-
Very disrespectful, but that's PETA for you. Remember when they handed out anti-milk pamphlets with false claims in them to school children? I'm all for treating animals well, but my donations go to the SPCA. And if I need advice what to eat, I'll ask a Registered Dietitian.0

LOL... I got my husband a t-shirt for Christmas that said ... PETA (People for the Eating of Tasty Animals). On the back, it says "I love cats, I just can't eat a whole one by myself"
So politically incorrect, but oh so funny. We can get away with it here, but I wouldn't want to wear it in a bigger city, I'd probably get my butt kicked. I love at the end of the video when the guy is talking about t-rexes and brontosaurs... LOL0 -
I am with ya on that one. I am having pork loins for dinner tonite. Yumy!!! :bigsmile:0

Yet another reason to not support them
Time for a nice, big juicy steak.0 -
I haven't seen the video yet. I'll have to wait util I go on my lunch break cause I'm at work. But this is the way I feel about eating meat. God gave us permission to eat meat so I'm gonna eat meat.0

PETA are a group of shock jocks who will never be taken seriously! I think most vegetarians are trying to do something good for health and the environment and I feel they're to be applauded. PETA just destroys all of the hard work of more discrete vegetarians who often have a valid point. Compassionate carnivores is a movement gaining momentum and I think that's the way to go!0

PS Fox news is a f**king joke! Was this "news" aired before or after Britney's latest meltdown?0

Oh my gosh! You made my conspiracy theory fetish kick in!! Now I'm wondering if the real purpose of PETA is to do the opposite of what they say they want to do!!!
Hee hee. This kind of thing just amuses me to no end. I like that. Compassionate Carnivores. Cause I love animals - I have four big rescued dogs to prove it. They eat meet too!0 -

As a firm believer in the value of the food chain, I would have to agree that Compassionate Carnivores is the way to go. Killing an animal for human sustenance = okay. Animal cruelty to line pockets and save time = not okay. :frown:0 -
I can't stand Peta people
Now they are going crazy in Philly because of the Mike Vick signing0 -
Wow, if they only knew how many vegans were on here trying to lose weight .
I'm all for a vegan lifestyle but it's hardly a means to not become overweight.0 -
This has me LMAO!!!!
Yep I think it's time for some steak!0 -

That is disrespectful to Tim McLean, his family, and humankind.0 -

I have no problem with them upset about the Michael Vick issue. I think THAT is what they should stand for!!
But having a problem with people for eating livestock raised to be made into ground chuck? Nope -- get over it.0 -
I don't always agree with PETA. But every once in a while they are right. KFC shouldn't torture chickens. And I'm still mad at Micheal Vick- I don't think a million dollar contract is the right thing to offer him- especially considering that he will be a role model for many, and has behaved so poorly...
The ad doesn't make me want to eat steak, I'm a pescatarian (fish only for me!) and it can be insulting- and factually incorrect- but it's not worse than plenty of other advertising that suggests a way to lose weight. Plenty of ads are derogatory toward heavy people, PETA is not alone there. Whale is not a nice word, but plenty of ads aren't nice. The real sickening one is the one some how connected to the murder of a human being. That's just ugly.0 -
I generally am an anti-PETA person because I tend to be anti-extremist (in any direction) even though I am in 100% support of humane treatment of animals and I think this ad did nothing to win them support. I think I am most bothered by the blanket statement that vegetarians are healthier than omnivores because I think it is factually incorrect. I think this ad is an offensive propagation of the falsehood that vegetarian is equivalent to healthy when in reality a number of the most unhealthy foods Americans eat are in fact vegetarian.
And, while it does get the point across, the idea of comparing an animal to a man being murdered is so amazingly callous to the family that, to me, it is almost unthinkable.0 -

PETA is BS
i am an animal lover myself, own two lovely ferrets that by coicidence are playing near me riht now like two crazy cats.
BUt i really cant stand peta, they are mostly crazy people!
Dam!0 -
I used to be a PETA member and have since stopped sending them any donations because I do believe they are too extreme and disrespectful with some other their advertising. However, there is no such thing as compassionate carnivores. If you do any research into the raising and slaughtering of animals that end up on our tables it is disturbing, heart breaking and leaves no doubt that they suffer tremendously. Some people will always eat meat...and that is what choice is all about, but torture cannot be labeled as compassion just because the animal is eaten and not worn.0
-
I see that I am in good company - really, really dislike PETA - they are extremists who blithely publish lies to support their cause. Am in agreement that compassionate "omnivorism" is the way to go, even when it comes to the environment - sustainable farms require the "husbandry" of both animals and plants to be sustainable. What PETA won't tell you is that far more acres of rain forest are sacrificed every year to the growth of soybeans than cattle. BTW, I am one of those former vegans whose vegan diet is one of the causes of my weight gain. (PETA wants everyone to go completely "animal free" in their diets.)0

I agree with you. I've been vegan for about 9 years now. There's no way to know how slaughtered animals (or dairy cows, etc.) are treated unless you live on a farm and raise the animals yourself. I'm sure there's people out there that eat "free-range" eggs and "humane" meat but there are no regulations for putting those labels on anything.0 -
I am an animal lover. I have 3 dogs and a ferret of my own and I generally have 2 or 3 foster dogs running around my house as well. One of my foster dogs was purposely bred for medical research. Thanks to Peta for complaining about shelter dogs being used for research - a huge industry is thriving - breeding dogs solely for the purpose of being "tested" on, Most of these dogs never make it out alive... my foster dog was sent to a veterinary school where someone took compassion on him and called our rescue. He will NEVER be normal because of the way that he was raised. It's sad... and yet, I see the need for some medical research... after all, given the choice of testing medicine on my dog or on my son... no contest. As much as I love my dogs (more than most... really...) - I value human lives more.
Peta is misguided at best... I can't stand them. If you want to win someone over to your cause - don't be crazy! I hated that Peta and I were on the same side of the Michael Vick case... I don't think he should have ever been allowed to play football again. Ever. And if I had my way... they'd have nabbed him on corrupting the morals of a minor... how many kids looked up to him? How many kids will emulate him?
Ok - stepping off my soap box. I hate Peta. I hate Mike Vick and I do love my occasional piece of meat!0
