A few months ago I swapped my usual breakfast of oats and milk for a green smoothie - my only fruit intake for the day. The smoothie usually contains banana (greenish not overly ripe), spinach, flaxseed, fruit such as apple, berries or kiwi fruit and water. My weight loss has been quite slow but in the past few weeks I've lost nearly 2kg (4.5 lb). The only thing that has changed diet wise is not having a banana in the smoothie. Do you think a banana a day would make such a difference?

    No.
  • My banana first thing in the morning before my work out is essential. Ok, I really just like it.
I agree. Used to eat oatmeal for breakfast. A banana fills me better, keeps blood sugar more level, longer. And I added 2 to my green smoothies this week and still lost. But every body is different.

I'm pretty vigilant about avoiding excess sugar, but I love me the occasional banana. I think the high fruit sugar content is more than balanced out by the level of snacky yummy satisfaction I get from eating one. :)

Natural Fructose in fruit is not bad for you. Health issues and weight gain arise in over consumption of simple refined sugars (like soda and HFC). I eat 1-2 bananas every day along with strawberries, blueberries and apples. Their sugars fall within my macro numbers and and the other phytonutrients that fruit contains make them an integral part of good health. Lost 40 pounds and have gained a ton of muscle so fruits will be a fixture in my daily regimen... my 2 cents

I eat quite a bit of fruit actually. But I am particularly sensitive to sugar--I have psoriatic arthritis and avoiding it as much as I can helps me stay pain-free---so I tend to be AWARE of it, even in fruit.
