I started at close to that. I plugged in my numbers and checked the box to lose 2lbs per week. It allotted me 1200 calories a day.

1200 seems really low for me...I would be starving!
  • 1400... going for 2 weeks now and lost 5lbs... want to lose it faster but I have to keep reminding myself slow and steady... I try to walk for 30min a day, 3mph...

My BMR calculations give me 1490, which I lost weight on for several weeks, but then started to plateau. I took it down to between 1300 - 1400 and have been losing 2-3 lbs a week now.

When I plugged my numbers in, it gave me 1200 but I had too much trouble sticking to that. I have found that if I eat around 1500 a day and DO NOT eat back my exercise calories, that works best for me!
  • My goal is 1680. I have only been doing this 5 days so it has been an adjustment when I am used to eating whatever I want! Found out I would be eating at least 3000 calories a day!

I weigh 200 pounds and eat around 1620 calories a day, this is a decrease in the calories I started with at my weight of 210 (1760). If I work out, I eat my calories back, or save them for the weekend. As long as my 7 day average is close to 1620, I don't mind going over or staying under on certain days.

I am working with a dietician and she has me on 1200 calories per day. I usually eat some of my exercise calories back.

I started at 218, down 17lbs in six weeks eating 1200/day. If I'm hungry I eat back my exercise calories, and I sometimes eat up to 1500 on the weekends (when I'm out and about more). This is what works for me.

I'm hovering at 227 right now, 5'5" and sedentary. 1200-1300 is doable, but tough. I find it helps to have low cal snacks on hand in between meals. I can't exercise right now (back injury), so I'll stick with this until I can do more. Lost 13 lbs in 22 days. I think it's reasonable to have a higher number if you're burning some off.

I'm at 211 right now and eat 1600 calories a day using my TDEE - 20%. I eat back some of my exercise calories. I lose anywhere from 1-3 lbs. per week.

Wow. I'm at 220, and MFP puts me at 1820 a day (female at 5'8" and lightly active). And I'm having a tough time sticking to that! But when I do, I seem to lose, so I guess it's working. I don't know how you all can do such low levels!

It's amazing what a few inches taller, and a few years younger will get you! LOL (j/k)

I was over 200 pounds at one time 232 to be exact.... and never did I eat below 1600 EVER. The weight came off.. and came off slow and steady. I always ate back about 1/2 or all of my exercise calories too. Always have.. and will continue to do so.. life style.. not a quick fix. Ya know..?

at 215 i was eating around 2000 or a bit more. my sedentary maintenance was close to 3K.

for the record i have quite a bit of LBM and have never been on a VLCD (or any other diet for that matter) so my metabolism is probably a bit higher than another similar weighted 40 year old woman

i seem to do best fat loss wise when i eat very close to my maintenance but 10% less than when i drop to something lower.

MFP just used formula and that might not work for everyone. it also gave me 1200 calories but that was WAY off. if you want to know for sure, try eating at your maintenance (or what you think is your maintenance calories) for a few weeks to see how your body responds
