You can also vote for local matters, not just who is president of the country. Local matters don't have electoral college to worry about.

Never mind, I see your post more clearly now. I misread. :)

I'm voting in hopes that someone out there that I'm electing can see the error in our system and return our voting system to a popular vote instead of the electoral college system. Living in Rhode Island isn't exactly someplace where you feel as if your vote counts for anything.

Actually, it's the voters that put all these idiots in office. I had nothing to do with it.

I will vote, cant complain if you dont. If everyone who disliked BOTH candidates voted for neither democrate or republican and picked independent or other instead of just voting along their registered party lines, we might see a chance for change in our country.

absolutely. every vote does count i believe. whoever doesnt believe that are the ones that really sway the election since their voices arent counted.

I DEF vote ESPECIALLY for local/state issues. Those have a direct effect on a lot of people in my family who work in law/government.

I am voting for presidency as well.. THAT I feel like "my vote doesnt really matter" But I still do it.
  • If I don't vote, I can't ***** ! The lesser of TWO Evils is EXACTLY it ! This country Needs To go back to the days before the Electoral College so that everyone in the United States Gets a fair deal.
God don't these people think about the life their grand children will live if we don't end this political corruption in Washington by the third world.

Uh...when did the US not have the Electoral College under the Constitution? It is actually meant to give less populated States a fairer shake.

Anyone plan on voting? I'm not. It doesn't matter because our vote doesn't really count. Voting here just give you the ILLUSION of freedom to choose the leader of the country. In reality, 99.9% of the country could vote for candidate A, but candidate B can still win because of the EC. Besides, our choices this year flat out suck. Lesser of 2 evils? I don't think so. I'll vote for the local people, and local ordinances, but as for who will (sort of) run the country...I give up..there is no hope.

I do not vote, and have never voted, it is the carrot they dangle in front of the masses, labelled democracy and freedom. We are not free, how many laws bind us and control us? How many countries are already using or being run according to the 10 communist planks? Every political party is a puppet for the same master, nothing will change, things will be re-ordered, things will be spoken about, the same old **** will still happen...the corporations and the banks will still have the last say.

My vote for president won't count, but since there is a possibility that there will be a tie, congress will get to decide who gets to be president, and it could end up being Romney/Biden.

So, I will be voting, for my local offices...and other public matters.

    I agree that if you don't vote, you can't *****, I like to *****.

It is a "right" to vote, it is a "civic duty" to vote and it is a "privelige" to vote.

    Yes you do.

I find it morally repulsive to vote for someone I do not fully support.

it is my moral obligation and civic duty to NOT vote when the two party system fields two terrible candidates.

Then vote for someone you don't. Write in someone just so it is known that you chose neither of the current candidates.

If you don't vote, you have no right to complain. If you don't like the candidates, get involved in the primaries so that your voice is heard when choosing candidates matters.
  • I will vote .... although I do agree with most of you on here that at this point it's for my opinion of who is the lesser of the 2 evils. *sigh* I'm still debating on writing in Harrison Ford... he did a damn good job playing the president in a movie once! :drinker:

Have you ever read the federal election rules? You can't elect a write in. It's not a true vote. A write-in candidate can never be elected, even with 100% of the vote.
It is not only my right to vote it is my civic duty to vote!

This is a logically flawed argument.

From the standpoint of civic duty, I'll be writing in a candidate. I agree with what's been said about two awful parties fielding two awful candidates.

However after the undermining of the 2000 election, Patriot Acts I & II, and the NDAA, it would be foolish to think there's any constituency within either major party for preserving the illusion of a democratic political system.

Yes! It's my responsibility to educate myself on the candidates and then choose the one that most closely represtents my ideology. Unfortunatly sometimes that means not voting for certain positions/offices. But I still show up and vote for those people or amendments that I do support.

This is the first election I have even considered not voting. Both candidates are repulsive. It will be difficult to cast a vote for either one of them.

Yes, but your non-vote is counted rather than just being someone who did not show up at the polls. Think of it as leaving a penny as a tip to let the server know that you didn't just forget to tip but you intended to leave such a small tip.

Also, you are going to have to explain how my logic is flawed.
