diet soda is bad! Stick to tea or coffee

i agree. fake sugar HAS been proven to be bad for you and has been shown to cause cancer in rats. (they are more like humans than anyone wants to belive...trust me I do research for a living)

everything causes cancer in rats if you give it to them in the extreme doses the researches use. I can't think of a single class action suit against Sweet and Low, Equal, Splenda etc...because of a human that died from it, can you?

PS I have a couple of cups of coffee a week, It's my only source of caffine and I enjoy it with milk and fake sugar. :)

I know! Weren't the rats in that study given the equivalent of like 30 cans a day or something ridiculous like that? I'm not so worried.

I have no problems with drinking caffeine. I have at least one can of diet coke per day, and some days also have coffee or tea.

Caffeine pays my mortgage  . DH and I own a coffee roastery, so we may be a bit biased:laugh: . That said, we don't actually drink loads of coffee; maybe two cups a day?

For me, it's better to have small amounts of quality 'real' coffee than drink instant, which has extra caffeine in (it made me really ill, so I won't touch it now:sick: )

...as with everything else, 'all things in moderation' can't be that bad for you.

I like that there are people who don't drink coffee because it means there's more for me. Give me all the coffee and nobody gets hurt.

I'm terrible at sleeping (no, not due to caffeine) so if I don't have coffee in the morning I am miserable to deal with, and be. I never do soda/pop but (good) coffee not only makes me awake, it makes me happy.

Caffeine is part of my daily routine with my morning coffee. I prefer herbal stimulants, but I can't afford to fly to China to obtain them.

So, yeah, personally, I'm a fan of stimulants! :smokin:

My take on caffeine is generally an intake, usually in the form of coffee or black tea.

I agree!! Have a big cup of coffee in the AM. Might have more in the PM. Black usually. Sometimes I'll put some heavy cream or coconut oil in it. Or coconut milk (the full fat canned kind! MMMMMMM!)

Some people are more sensitive to caffeine, some less. I can down a pot of coffee and lay down and fall asleep. My man who weighs 80lbs more than me and is a foot taller has more than two cups and he's shaking like a leaf.

coffee is good before a workout because the caffeine charge will give you a better workout (I'm not saying harder because a harder workout isn't necessarily a better workout)

Sipping on some sustainably grown pumpkin spice flavored coffee
Usually my coffees come from small family owned plantations from different parts of the world.

I used to drink a pot of strong coffee every morning before I went to work and often in the evening. It had no effect on me in the least. Back in those days (70s), I was a men's hair stylist. All of a sudden one day I had the shakes really bad and could hardly work. I put up with this every day for about a month and someone told me it was the coffee. I was really skeptical, but tried not drinking any one day. My hands were steady as a rock. The thing about caffeine is; all of a sudden, your body says "enuff is enuff!!". I quit drinking coffee for about 10 years, but now I usually have a few cups a day. As long as I don't drink them one after the other, it doesn't cause the shakes.
  • I just take 100 - 200 mg of caffeine in tablet form with water most days. Works for me.

I live on coffee maybe 4-5 cups a day. I dont think its all that great for you so slowly replacing some of them with green tea which is surprisingly nice.

Actually, there is no proof that artificial sweeteners are bad for humans. Humans have been consuming some of these sweeteners for decades now, after all. And despite what research shows about cancer in rats or mice, clinical or epidemiological evidence has failed to show a link between the two in humans.

Of course, there is no proof it's not bad, either. Which is why I think it's best to limit use of it.

Not sure what the benefit of caffeine in a tablet is....I'd much rather relax with a fresh cup of coffee :drinker:

You could be wrong about that --

    http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/18/health/coffee-health-benefits/index.html

    Why would coffee be good?

More is known about the overall association between coffee and positive health effects than about the mechanism behind it, said Dr. Alberto Ascherio, professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Antioxidants are one potential reason that good outcomes are seen from coffee. Our bodies produce oxygen radicals, which are damaging to DNA. Antioxidants prevent them from doing damage, Ascherio said.

Although antioxidants are found in fruits and vegetables, research has shown that coffee is the top source of antioxidants for Americans.

Caffeine itself may also contribute to coffee's positive effects on brain health. That may be because caffeine is an antagonist to adenosine receptors. These receptors normally slow down neural activity when the chemical adenosine binds to them, producing a sleepy feeling. But if caffeine binds to the receptors, the activity of neurons speeds up.

Coffee also appears to lower levels of insulin and estrogen, which is perhaps why a study last year found a lower risk of endometrial cancer in coffee-drinking women. Insulin also plays a role in prostate cancer, another disease coffee may help stave off.

No one else in the house drinks coffee and I don't want to fool with a coffee maker or buy coffee just for myself. Also faster than making and drinking coffee. Don't have to worry about my little children trying to steal my cup and spilling it all over. As a bonus it does not stain my teeth, I suppose. I end up getting 1 - 2 cups of coffee's worth of stimulant. Not quite the same, but close enough. :ohwell:
