Need exercises easy on the spine, help?

Hello... I had 2 major spinal surgeries in May and I have to be careful how I use my back. I walk daily, usually twice a day, but I want to do more. Water aerobics is on my list, but getting in a pool when it's cold limits my enthusiasm. I bought dumbbells with different weights I can attach or remove, but I'm really inexperienced as far as exercising with weights. Can somebody with experience point me in the right direction? I could google the topic, but there's so much on the 'net that's unreliable I'd rather get input from people who have been in this situation, or have a good knowledge of body mechanics. Thanks!

Hi. I have had major spinal surgery as well. I would talk to your Doctor and see what he thinks is safe to try. Usually your Dr. can give you a list of things you are clear to do post surgery. You can try to start jogging/running, ride a bike, play group sports. The pool is great after spinal surgery. Maybe you could find an indoor heated pool at a gym if it is too cold. As far as weights go I would start off with light weights and high reps and go from there. Stretching is super important after having spinal surgery and I did a lot of stretching exercises. Good luck!0
