Calorie Counter

Has anyone used calorie counters on other sites? I was checking out an article at livestrong.com re: magnesium supplements for sleep issues and stumbled across their calorie counter. According to theirs, I am supposed to eat around 1450 cal/day to lose 2 lbs/week. Since I've started using MFP my weight loss has been a little slower than before I was using the food diary. Is it possible I am eating too FEW calories and have slowed down my metabolism? Any one else have any experience/thoughts on this?

  • I just thought of the same thing this morning, and I found this article which was helpful:

Also another member mentioned earlier how they were stuck at too few calories so they upped their strength training (because muscle has a higher metabolism than fat) and eating more filling foods with lots of fiber.
  • Thank you! I was eating strictly 1200 ca/day and working out every day, and lost ONE pound in TWO weeks--way less than what I had been losing when I was eating around 1600 cal/day and working out 4-5 days/week. I think I'll eat a little more quality food calories and see what happens. Two days ago I upped my daily calories to around 1400 calories/day and lost half a pound in those two days.
  • Here's another article about how many calories to eat when trying to lose weight--very helpful!
