Okra seeds cut in half, the cut side looks like a miniature squid slice? Especially when it is floating in soup? That the whole seed floating in the soup kinda looks like a miniature eyeball?

I can't say I had. Mostly because okra is the work of the devil himself.

I haven't noticed this myself either. I LOVE Okra, but I only eat it when its cooked in unhealthy ways. I love it fried, and stewed with crowder peas, seasoned with pork.

Unless it is floating in hot oil with some sort of yummy breading surrounding it, I'm not interested in how it looks.

It's hard to notice one it's covered in breading, deep fried, and dredged through ranch dressing.

I've only ever had okra pickled and in a bloody mary.
It was fabulous but whole so I haven't had a chance to assess the squid or eyeball similarities

it is a love it or hate it type of veggie. I would suggest checking your local Wal-Mart or grocery store for pickled okra to start with. I could eat a whole jar of that stuff. and most people I know like it. well...that or fried. you can never go wrong with fried okra.

I will try. What does it taste like? If you had to compare it to another veggie.

someone can pipe in if they have something but I think it is unique to itself. I think that what gets a lot of people totally turned off is the tendency for okra, when cooked, to have an odd texture that is somewhat slimy on the inside. I think that pickled avoids that. pickled okra is crisp and spicy with that sour vinegar pickled taste....gonna have to get some at the store now. lol

Yeah, if the fried okra gets too cool, I won't eat it for this reason. But, it is the reason I use in soups etc (and definitely makes the gumbo or creole dish) it is a natural thickener. The only description I can add is...it has a green taste to it...which doesn't say much I know...sorry.
