Hi all,
My name is Crystal and I have never become involved in a forum for weight loss, and after reading through this site I've decided to put myself out there and introduce myself. First of all, I have reached a ripe ol poundage of 322 pounds. Ugh. And boy do I feel it. My feet hurt, my knees hurt, I have to jut my jaw out and perform an under-bite in any picture I can so I don't die a little more inside when I look at it and see the bulge that has become my secondary chin. I'm 27. Enough.
I have been overweight my entire life. I can remember being bribed to lose weight since I was in the 3rd grade. I'm a tall woman- almost 6 ft, so I was able to "carry it" ok....right. I've always had the "her face is pretty...." syndrome. I've always been the funny girl. I've always appeared a lot more confident than I actually am. I've tried a ton of different "diets", but for the first time I am trying a new strategy. I'm not going to diet. I drive myself nuts over it. I get into a cycle of guilt that is just so destructive.
So what am I going to do instead of "diet"? I'm going to try heart rate training. I just purchased a heart rate monitor that I will wear all day long that will calculate what I burn in calories, and will also tell me when to increase or decrease my intensity when I do go on walks or go to the gym. I will get healthy the healthy way. Slowly, and gradually. My goal? Loose one pound and then repeat at least 100 times. After that? Run a 5k or some other similar healthy/fit person accomplishment that I've always been so jealous of.
Overall, I would LOVE to make new friends out there that are going through the same struggles and successes. I need to put myself into it everyday. I need to interact with others who are in the same canoe. I need to make a better life for myself. I can't be this person anymore.

Welcome, Crystal! :drinker:
You've definately come to the right place! Everyone on this site is so supportive and into getting a healthier life!
My story is pretty similar to your. I've always been overweight, always been the cut-up, etcetc. Oh, and I've never been shy about my weight, so I've had a lot of the "you don't look it" or "you carry it well" convos as well. :ohwell:
I love your goal system, btw!
Glad to have you here!

Welcome, Krystal! Here's to you, the first step is admitting to yourself that support and help will benefit, instead of doing what I've always done, going it alone. Now is the first time I joined a dieting/health forum and asked for help and motivation in my ongoing process of living a healthier life for myself and the future.0

Hello and Welcome, I like your strategy. I can say I was a skinny kid, but years of working mean I have been sitting and dealing with stress by ´chocolate medication´. So, the outcome has not been good.
I have a similar strategy to yours, I am exercising and documenting everything I eat in this site, this includes the good stuff and the bad, so I can get a handle on my foot issues. By awareness we can act.
I will say this: So far, the losing scale pounds has been hard. But after almost 6 months of working out 4 days a week (sometimes with a really great personal trainer), I am much fitter, I have muscles, and my clothing fits better.
This is a great site, looking forward to tracking your insights and progress. You GO girl!0 -
Welcometo MFP Crystal. I am sure you will reach your goal with the support and motivation you get from this site0

Hi Crystal!!
Well done for taking the first step.
You will find this site so useful and motivating I'm sure you will be pleased with all your efforts and hard work to reach your goal. I love it and use it everyday to keep on track!!
All is not lost. You are STILL young and you are pretty!! You can be that person you want to be.
Do it now, not in 20 years when you have lost the chance to be young and slim and pretty. It feels great and you will never regret doing it now. So don't let another year slip by without it.
I think everything you have said about losing weight will work. You seem to be thinking the right way.
I'm actually in the last 7lbs of my post baby weight... very very hard to shift but I'm not giving up!!
I hate diets too, especially the long and boring ones but I do have a detox which is only a few days long which I do each month. I'm still perfecting my own version of it. I will let you have the details if you can handle a 4 day detox diet?
I find it really helps me shift some weiight, gives me a boost but best of all seems to clean my system and makes you feel great.
Wish you all the best and any advice or tips this site is the place to be.
