Job Change = Weight Gain

I work in the film industry in the United States. I recently went from a job that had me on film sets all day...standing, walking, running, lifting, etc... to another job in film that has me basically sitting in my car (scouting locations) and working in an office all day. In ONE MONTH I gained 20 pounds!!! I didn't even think that was possible to be honest.

Film offices are tough places to work because the food is FREE all day long. High stress + free food = FAT!

So, I am now realizing that I am going to have to fight the food in the office AND find the time to squeeze in MUCH more exercise when not at the office.

On top of all of this, film schedules change drastically. Monday - Wednesday we might be shooting from 5AM to 8PM and then Thursday - Friday it might be from 5PM to 6AM (night scenes)...so...there is no way to get in to any sort of set schedule.

Oh well...so it begins...

Ouch. That makes it rough. I know my weight gain started when I started sitting at a desk most of the time for IT work. Maybe t would be possible to sneak in some short walks here and there, as a start?

Can feel you here also. Went back to work, sitting behind a desk for 9 hours a day after losing 71 pounds. Have gained back 10 pounds over the past 3 months. The major change in activity level has really got me down. Have been getting up 1 hour early to get in some type of workout.

I gained too. I was used to having healthier choices and working with people who were all on a healthy track so we only had healthy foods around. Even when we ordered we supported one another. My new job I just did not exercise control. Now that I have regained 25 lbs, I have a plan. I am bringing my food and when we do have things brought in I consider what's better/best option. I know it's hard because if it is free it is so much easier to indulge. You have to remember it's not really free if it's cancelling all of your hard work.

same here! one trick I have is a mini-stepper under my desk (I can use it while sitting and I don't count it as workouts but it has to help, right!) and a habit of lunchtime walks. Also, one meal a day soup (not cream-based) or salad for lunch/dinner really helps keep calorie counts low.

I completely understand how changing jobs can equal weight gain! 2 years ago I decided I wanted a change and stopped being a nurse where I was on my feet for 12+ hours a day to a desk job where I sit for 10 - 11 hours a day. I never thought that simply making a career change would have such an impact on my weight, but it has! I've gained 40lbs over the past two years and I wasn't thin to begin with.

The hardest thing has been trying to find time to exercise. I leave home at 7am and don't get home til after 8pm most nights. So, I've made some small changes to get in some exercise. I park my car at the back of a parking lot when I go to a store. I get up and walk around the office at least once an hour, it's not much, but it is helping. I started not stopping at the mail hub in my community to get my mail and instead walking to the mailbox (it's approximately 1/4 mile from my house, so going there and back gives me a 1/2 mile walk). Every step counts! Just look at it differently and I'm sure you will find ways you can incorporate some extra exercise into your crazy schedule!

Good luck, you can do this!
