joggers/ runners - What do you do this time of year?

I went out on my little jog this morning at 6am it was nice, frosty and only 1 degree, the first path i went down was fine but when i turned into the next street it was very slippery under foot, i kept going but at a slightly slower pace so not to hurt myself.
Im new to all this jogging stuff so my question is how do you deal with this weather and the slippery paths?

I take it you don't live in Florida where it was 68 this morning...But on days it is too cold to run(50F), I go to the gym.0

Thankfully I have my treadmill. Also, I've agreed to meet up with a couple friends a few times a month to run on the indoor track at our soccer facility.0

Good Lord, that's cold! Where do you guys live?!?! Here in Chicago, it is in the 30s-40s F these days. I've bundled up a couple times to head out, but mostly just go indoors and use the treadmill. Not that exciting, but I try to change it up and do some interval training.

I go to the gym and run on the treadmill. Running in the cold sounds miserable to me but I haven't really tried it...0

I just started running and I've been giving this a lot of thought, I guess I'll be using the treadmill. I have a race every month so I will be doing some outside running.0

I think they're talking Celcius....so 1 degree C is 33 degrees F.0 -
I will run outside until it gets down to the teens. Simply bundle up and get going. But,,,if there is ice out of any kind, I prefer to keep it indoors. The treadmill or indoor track is usually where I end up in the winter.0

I deal with the hazards. I say run outside but be safe about it. Run in the grass or on the side (thinking it's gravel) of the road for some extra grip. Mostly, just pay attention. Have fun. Nice dedication to keep running in the cold though.0

Yaktraxs, https://www.yaktrax.com/, have been a definite help to ensure not losing it during my run. Otherwise the only other thing I have is a neck warmer that way I can pull it up for breathing when the temps are too low.0

I've never run outside in winter before... I think I'm just going to run inside since I'll likely slip and break my face.0

I was supposed to participate in a 5 k yesterday, but it was cancelled. The city was covered in a layer of ice. And today it's cold and windy. Tomorrow we are expecting an inch of snow over that ice. Living where I do, inside running is often my only option!0

I just bundle up an head on out. I only resort to the treadmill if it is icy/slippery outside. I actually prefer to running in the cold weather. The 30's & 40's are my favorite!0

I have running spikes for the ice...I slow down my pace a little and dress warmer. I really cannot stand the treadmill but will use it if I have to.0

I'd rather run in the cold. Running in humidity is like breathing peanut butter for me.0

You can run in almost any temps, cold weather doesn't cause long term damage to your respiratory system. Layer up appropriately, take time to do a good warm up with walking and stretching and you should probably be fine. I was running in MT in about 25 degree F weather last winter and it felt pretty good.0 -

I'm from England so the rubbish weather is pretty standard.
Firstly, consider switching your trainers to trail runners. They have more nobbly bits at the base which will improve your grip to the road/ground surface in wet weather.
Secondly, you can get thermal base layer, which is long sleeved and will keep you warm when you first step out, but it should be breathable so when you warm up you won't overheat. You can buy these from any sports shop, or mountain climbing clothing specialists.
I also have a waterproof breathable jacket and some running gloves for when it is really cold.0 -
Well I live in a subtropical climate, but if the weather is bad I run on a treadmill or indoor track.0

At 1 degree (which is what it's at where I am now as well), I'll wear my lululemon (Groove) full length yoga pants and then a running tank with a nike climalite longsleeve top. That's it. Don't need anything more than that. When it drops to about -10, I'll put on a lululemon hoodie, gloves and hat.
Even when it's freezing outside, you need surprisingly little to run in.
I can't help you on the slippery paths though - I run on sidewalks and they're generally cleared even when it's been snowing out.
As a sidenote, I LOVE winter running outdoors. When it's fresh and cold, it's so energizing. Love it so much more than summer running when I'm drenched in sweat and can barely breathe from the humidity.0 -
Im in ND and the weather can be pretty brutal. I am new to running and upgraded my treadmill to one that is meant for running and it will become my best friend this winter!!! Hoping by Spring I will be ready to hit the road hard!!0

bought a *hat* called a balaclava this weekend. wore it on my 30ish degree run on Sunday morning. pulled it down when I needed some warmth on my face and neck and flipped it up on my forehead when I got too hot. the only thing I am worried about running in is snow and/or ice. I don't want to slip but I think I will still hit it I will just be more careful. if all else fails I will run at my gym's track but it is soooooo boring running inside that I end up stopping way before I normally would.0

LOL, this....I throw a couple of kettlebell workouts a week in - great HIIT and strengh too...0 -
Buy cool outdoor running gear, strap on my yak traks and head on outdoors and if it's way too nasty out, cave and hit the treadmill, usually angrily.0

^Getting a pair of those for icy & snowy conditions. Also ordering a hood.
As of right now (28-35 degress most mornings), I just dress warmer and get out there. I love running in the cold....I am able to pace myself much better and the chill keeps me moving.0 -
run when it's 60 instead of it being 80-100...0

I run with a hat, gloves and lots of warm clothing. Anything above 5 degrees is fair game :-) Though one day while running at my parents in Colorado two years ago and I'm guessing at the time that the windchill was probably around -10. Normally if it's that cold, I stick to the treadmill or indoor track if I have access to one.0
