How do you NOT think about food???

Options
OK. I can handle the whole dieting/lifestyle change....not a problem. But how in the world can I keep myself from obsessing about food ALL day!?!? As soon as I wake up I'm thinking about what I'll have for lunch then once I finish lunch I'm thinking about what I'll have for dinner....and I'm not even hungry!!!

Is it something that comes naturally once you've changed your habits and such?? HELP!

I think about sex too much to let food get in the way.

Things only get good when the two thoughts collide.

Once your stomah shrinks it gets a lot easier. Try obsessing about getting in half your body weight in oz of water instead. Like for a 220 lb person, they should have 110 oz water. Lots of water helps me from being hungry. Good luck :)

I sometimes have the same problem and its definitely all phsycological. I try and eat every 3 hrs without fail. It keeps my metabolism up and keeps me from feelin like I'm starving. You gotta drink lots and lots of water and did I say... lots of water... Lol!!! It really helps keep you feeling full,, I try and drink a full glass just before each meal.

I don't know the answer! The less I eat, the more I obsess about food. It's interesting because I'm doing a sort of intermittent fasting thing at the moment, and on the low calorie days, I REALLY can't stop thinking about food.

I do remember reading that calorie restriction does tend to make people obsess about food.

Plan your meals in advance so you don't have to think about it so much. Have go-to foods you know will easily fit with your day.

If you're really hungry all the time and not just overthinking your meal planning, you may need to increase your calories a bit. Please remember that dramatic calorie reduction is a "diet" and is temporary... learning to eat an appropriate amount for your body while still being in a deficit will cause you to lose fat over time and will be the permanent change you desire.

Lies. It's at least 36% sex, 8.7% exercise, and 84.3% sarcasm.

    Wait.... something went wrong there.

I used to never think about food. I just ate it. And got bigger somehow, not in a good way.

Then I started thinking about it all the time. To help keep appetite in check, I spread my meals out from 2-3 per day to 5-6.

**Note, this wasn't to keep my metabolism running high or any such bollocks. I just wanted to not be hungry at 3pm every day.

If you can't do the math, there is no hope for me.

    *sigh*

OP -- at first as you're trying to navigate your weigh through and figure out what foods fill you up for fewer calories, what's healthy, how many calories things are, etc., it's normal to think about it a lot. Planning ahead is good, anyway. It does get easier.

I do the same thing. Right now, I'm thinking

"What type of protein am I having tonight, that I can make a yummy healthy lunch for tomorrow with as well?"

I think it's a GOOD thing to think of food in this way, planning ahead, weighing options, etc...

This is me me me me and me!!! I was really bad in the beginning, but even now after almost 60lbs lost I have bad days. What I have done is create a menu plan that I fill out each Sunday night. This means I litterally plan out every meal and then go shopping based on that. I even include all the dinners that my family has and everything. This way I take that worry away and have a general idea of how many calories I'll be eating each day.

OF COURSE life happens and I don't always stick to the plan I laid out, but it is a GREAT way to take control. I love going to the grocery store knowing that everything I buy is going to be used that week and it really takes the stress of planning supper because my hubby and I both work. We have now made it a family activity on Sunday's and the kids LOVE being able to give input on what we will have for dinner each night for the week.

It has really helped me take control and stop thinking so much about food!!

    Good luck!!

My mind is all over the place. I doubt I think about the same thing for more than about 2 minutes. I don't mind food taking it's cycle through the chaos!

Not necessarily. I eat more than enough, I just like to be organised and prepared when it comes to my food and exercise since it keeps me from straying off track. Don't think its a bad thing at all!
