Could the hospitals scale be broken?!?

I just spent the last 6 hours in the hospital. When the nurse asked me to step on the scale I said oh God, took off my coat but still had my shoes on, jeans and a hoody. I was expecting to see between 203 to 205 because thats what it says at home.
But to my huge surprise it said 190! I asked the nurse to confirm it and she said 189. Im asking this because I have been trying SO hard for a year to get in the 180s but unfortunately could only maintain at 200.

How accurate do you think the scale at the hospital is! LOL!!!

Probably a heck of a lot more accurate than your home scale.

It doesn't matter. It's just a number. You have to pick ONE scale and stick with it. Either you are happy with your size or not.

Not happy with my size what so ever. Ive always wanted to be as far away from 200 as possible. With the scale staying between 195 and 205 for over a year now It didnt motivate me at all. Id try and fail, try and fail. Just seeing the scale today at 190 made me really happy. A lot of people dont think the numbers matter, but it matters to me.

Do you have the possibility to weigh yourself somewhere else? Gym, your parents, friends house? Just for confirmation that your scale (or the doctors) is wrong?

Im going to try! Im also getting a new scale soon because Ive had this one forever and its been through a lot lol. Ill weight myself at home before going scale shopping just to see if maybe it was my scale compared to the scales at the store.

If you can afford it, get a wifi scale. Or ask for one for Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa. I adore mine, it connects to all kinds of web toys, including MFP!

O and stop that weighing all day! Once in the morning after u get up and use the bathroom, thats it. Counter productive and very misleading all through out the day.......:)

I would say a drs office or hospital scale would be more reliable than a home scale, congrats!

Oh I know :) Your weight fluctuates constantly. But it motivates me and helps keep my butt in gear.

Yes, this. You didn't change size in between your house and the hospital.

Yup, I agree with this. You didn't magically lose 10+ pounds on your drive to the hospital. Scales all weigh a bit differently. Yes you maybe are 190 but that still means that you are stuck there and have lost the same amount of weight as you did. If it's motivating, great, but once you step back on your scale that 'loss' won't be there.

physically no, it isn't a difference. For this lovely lady, the mental issue of not being under 200 despite what she has been doing may have been subconsciously sabotaging her efforts a little? Actually being under 200 might give her a great motivational kick to keep going. (and her MFP cal count will get adjusted as well.)

That's why I said 'if it's motivating, great' It's never bad to be motivated. But unless she buys a scale that matches what the hospital scale says then she's just gonna get depressed again about it.

Wow. I didnt anywhere say woo hoo! I lost 10 lbs in 25 mins!! It was just great to see that the number that I have been trying so had to reach for the last year could possibly been there all along. Maybe now I wont be so hard on myself mentally.

But thank you SO much to everyone with all the positive replies!!!
