Does anyone have suggestions for low calorie pre-workout snacks?

Unless the exercise is long (over 2 hours) I just hydrate about an hour before. If it is longer I will eat oatmeal or a granola bar. Yogurt might work for you.

A banana and a glass of skim milk works for me. If I just want some quick energy I pour myself a mug of really strong coffee and sweeten it with 2 tablespoons of honey or Agave nectar (120 calories and 30 grams of carbs) It's quite a jolt

I'll eat a rice cake with PB2 and sugar free jam.

take about ten grams BCAA before your workout...i train fasted so not sure about the pre work snack..sorry
  • I usually have to eat something because I will work out right after work when I haven't eaten in 4 hours. I noticed if I try to work out without eating my body gives up on me too soon because there is no food energy.

Quest bar. Like the milk and banana suggestion. Half bagel w/ PB. Mozz stick and an apple. Protein shake made with milk. handful of nuts and raisins. Slice of cheese and small soft pretzel.
Depends on the workout, really. The more endurance cardio, the more I go for "light" (meaning non fiber-full, white) carbs. Fiber one bar before long run = big mistake.

I eat about 20% of my cals at 12:30 about 400 and skip breakfast. I usually train at 4:30ish and never seem to have any problems with energy. i do take about 10 grams BCCA before workout and sip on about five during..not sure if that is it...

Try training fasted one day you might find that you like it...just throwing that out there..

I dunno....training fasted and training hungry really aren't the same thing. She's (in my understanding) not doing IF. I don't think the concept is really applicable to someone who eats on a regular schedule and is trying to workout after work, close to when their body is expecting dinner.
  • a banana or 1/2 protein bar. a slice of cheese isn't a bad idea either. I generally like to keep it small so it doesn't hurt my tummy.

An hour or so beforehand (while still at work) I'll eat half an apple and a few cashews. Some carbs for quick energy and some fat to make me feel fuller.
  • I workout in the morning (around 8:30) so I have my regular breakfast around 7am (eg muesli and yoghurt, or smoothie, or oatmeal) then do the school run, then head to the gym.
