I am a teacher and I just can not believe how many people do not know the difference between LOSE and LOOSE. Please take note:

LOSE is the opposite of GAIN
LOOSE is the opposite of TIGHT

LOOSE rhymes with NOOSE

Spread the word. It seems only about 50% or less know this. Thank you and have a good day!

Thanks. I suck at spelling, so I'll probably forget this by the next time I need to say I'd like to lose more weight so that my new pants will be to loose, and I need to lose them and buy new ones.

I think it's a typo and not a spelling error.

Worse than misspelling LOSE/ LOOSE in a fitness forum, is trying to educate those that misspell it. :noway:

For some English is a second language but many folks don't know how to spell and think everything should be written like they are "texting" a 10 year old.

I used to speak 9 languages at one point. I too like to make fun of others when they're speaking a non-native language and point and laugh at them. I am the greatest teacher of all the freaking time!

Some of us are dyslexic and have a hard time spelling anything. I'm sure I've spelled it wrong a lot but I have to check at least 3 words per post with google and still mis spell a lot. Sorry this is annoying... :(

That was driving me nuts too, but I didn't say anything because many people take it so personally when you correct their spelling
  • thanks for that! I always screw it up. Now choose and chose?

Or noose and nose? Those confuse the hell out of me too.
  • Yes along with proper usage of apostrophes (they are not used to make things plural. It's not how many of you have baby's, it's babies!!), your and you're, then and than, and for goodness sakes top ending sentences with prepositions!!

It would be nice if everyone cared about correct grammar, spelling and punctuation, but I've kind of learned the hard way that they don't. I relinquished my title of grammar nazi long ago, but I admit at times it bugs the crap out of me, especially when I see entire posts with no punctuation or capital letters and multiple spelling mistakes.

    Dead horse is dead.
  • While I am not a fan of spelling errors, do take note of the fact that people with non-English speaking backgrounds also use this site.

This also bothers me, but an unprovoked offensive attack supported by conjecture? You may be a teacher OP, however you are not their teacher.
