New and Determined

Hi everyone!

I'm Nessa, and I'm new to MFP. I just turned 29, am engaged, and am currently a bulging bride-to-be and that's just not going to fly. I've spent the last ten years, especially since I started university, developing some of the worst eating habits imaginable: fast food has become my "convenient" go-to because it's fast and doesn't involve having to cook. And as an English major, well... fitness was never a huge priority. But my body's been feeling the side effects for a long time now, and I've *got* to do something, anything (!) to make the change.

So I'm taking charge.

I'm currently the only one in the house trying to lose weight, and being from Nova Scotia comfort food is a staple. So I have to start cooking for myself and let others fend for themselves if they don't want what I'm eating. I have a wonderfully supportive fiance who's joined a gym with me, introduced me to a trainer friend of his, and is endlessly supportive. Any time I ask, he'll go for a walk or a hike or come to the gym with me, and what I'd like to do, more than slim down so that I'm comfortable in my own skin and don't have anxiety attacks while trying on wedding dresses, is I'd love to go out to judo with him. He's an instructor at our local club, and this is something that's so important to him. I'd love to be able to share in it with him, and actually be able to keep up through the intense warm up they do.

So here I am, taking my first steps. :)

Good for you!!! Stay strong. I know how difficult it is to be eating healthy in a house that doesn't join you. I sent my daughter home with the leftover pizza from last nights meal - just so I wouldn't be tempted!!! Kale salad - here I come!!!

I'm new as well!! I'm 24 and weighing myself is my biggest nightmare.
Hopefully this site will help me stay focused and on track before Christmas temptations kick in - It's the most challenging time of the year to keep in control, but we can do it!
  • Christmas is so hard! More than any other time of the year, it seems like everyone's turning out sweets. So many of my Christmas memories are of the baked goods my grandmother used to make; there were so many! It's going to be so hard to say no thank you this year without hurting her feelings. :(
  • Good Luck! Take it day by day, and just know youve got friends here! Yay! :)
