Sugar!

MFP tells me that I can only consume 34 g of sugar per day, but I find that quickly adds up throughout the day. I enjoy fruits and vegetables, and I also like to have a dessert at the end of the day - preferably some frozen yogurt. My question is, should I be worried about my sugar intake? Does it affect my weight; I'm currently trying to maintain - not lose, not gain. Also, is it bad to eat ice cream every night, as long as it fits my caloric needs? Please help! Thank you guys

I eat swag cream every night, and its DELICIOUS. I do make sure it fits into my goals, regardless if you eat healthy why not live a little?0

Instead of trying to micromanage every aspect of your food intake, you might find it more beneficial to try to just meet protein and calorie goals0

Because of fruits, my sugars are always high. I tend to mostly worry about calories, fat and protein. )0

Sugar is just a subset of carbs and unless you have a medical condition that requires it, there is no need to track separately,
Also, I have at least one serving of ice-cream a day - one of which is always just before bed - I just fit it into my targets.0 -
Yeah, my problem is similar...with carbs. I usually go over just a little, but am under in calories and fat. I know too many carbs are bad, but they are in the best foods on Earth!!!0

Sugar from fruits and vegetables is nothing to really concern yourself with (unless you are a diabetic like me). It's the processed sugars you should keep an eye on. If you are having 30g of fructose vs 30g of sucrose then I wouldn't be worried. Carbs is what you should watch. The 'Sugars' in the nutrition label is built into the total carbs number, so if you eat a dessert that is say, 24g of carbs and it has 12g of sugar then you know that half of the carbs are coming from simple sugar. Simple sugars spike your blood glucose and burn off quickly which leads to cravings as your blood glucose quickly drops again. Just make sure you are balancing your diet with slow-burning carbs to avoid the BG spikes. Then you can have your treat and not worry.0

Honestly, if you get your blood sugar checked, you don't have diabetes/a family history, you get some exercise, and you don't experience blood sugar crashes then you should be fine even at a relatively high level.
Most days I eat 100g of sugar. I know, crazy, but like you said it adds up quickly just from fruit, whole grains, plain yogurt, condiments, etc. My blood sugar is actually on the low side! It was 77 fasting last time I had it checked a few months ago.0 -
Mine only allows 36 also. I used to stress out about it, but as long as I know Im eating the right way, no worries. I do try and limit my fruit to no more than 2 pcs a day, thats a personal choice.0
