Quit Smoking Tips

I'm doing well at controlling my calories, fats and I do plenty of exercise in the gym as well as work.
My biggest battle is with smoking. I smoke about 10 cigarettes a day (at one point I would smoke three packs per day then got it down to one pack per day, I'm improving).
I don't know if I should quit cold turkey or start working down again. I can go several hours without smoking but then I start getting irritated about everything then I can be a nightmare. I've tried the patch and gum and it makes me feel like crap - way too much nicotine in those for the amount of nicotine I consume.
I think the problem I have is breaking the habit, if I'm driving or out in the garage and I feel like I should be smoking.
Is there any tips from previous smokers on how you quit?

I coated all cigarettes I had with hot pepper juice. You really have to want a smoke to put this to your lips.0
