...who, when the sushi guy gives me more than the usual amount of wasabi, considers it a personal challenge to eat all of it?

    Sometimes I'm surprised by how much wasabi is given for the serving size of sushi ordered - if I didn't like the way my raw fish tasted, I would ask for it grilled not just hide it by numbing my tastebuds and cleansing my sinuses

    I used to say that about sushi before I tried good sushi...and now, I'm addicted to it. (I'm pretty sure they put an addictive chemical in the sushi that makes you crave it fortnightly.)

    Question--do you mix the wasabi in with the soy sauce, or do you spread the wasabi on the sushi? I do the latter. People look at me strangely.

    Not all sushi is raw, the yummiest sushi is baked or BBQ eel (unagi) or sea scallops. A lot of people love spicy tuna, I'm not one of those people. I used to be grossed out by the look of it until I tried eel, now I keep one in my freezer most of the time.

    When my mother was alive we would go out and I would have sushi and pile on the wasabi to the point I'd have tears running from my eyes. :cry: She would ask why I would eat it if it was that torturous - I said because it's so good!!! :wink:

    I take an appropriate amount of wasabi* (defined as the total amount of wasabi divided by the number of pieces remaining) and place it on the top of the piece. Pick it up, dip lightly in soy sauce, and eat. Repeat until sushi is gone. Shed tear. Resume post-lunch living.

    *Yes, this includes the "fake" wasabi too.
