Hey guys,
I'm 24 years old, and I'm about to graduate college. Over the last three years I've gained around 70 pounds. I work really hard all day on homework, class stuff etc. I try to walk almost everywhere, and eat at least fairly healthily. I do have a sweet tooth, but after a long, hard day all I want to do is eat sweets and read a book and loose myself in something other than my own life.
I guess you might say that I'm not the happiest human being, but what's worse is the fact that people say such nasty comments to me regarding my weight and although I act like I don't care it really does actually hurt my feelings.
So I guess I'll try to loose at least some weight, so that people wont constantly criticize and make me feel like a lump of ****. I have a boyfriend who has never complained once about how much I weighed ( thankfully) but I get that criticism from my parents who just love to lord the fact that I look " 300 pounds" ( i do not weigh that much.. not even close) or that I need to look better because I am unattractive now. Perhaps if I loose some weight I wont be inundated by their constant complaints.
Anyway, it would be nice to have some people on here who want to support me through this. I just need to get through the holiday season without getting bigger and embarrassing my family because I look disgusting according to them.
Other than my weight "problem" ( which at around 200 lbs for 6 feet isn't too terrible) I'm generally a happy, normal person who is smart and talented. I just wish they could see that.
Well. Hopefully I'll find some friends who know what I'm talking about.
Have a great day, guys!
Casey

You can do whatever you set your mind to, especially lose weight. I can see it in your eyes, you have a fire and a passion inside you that just wants to be unleashed. Just as you gained weight, you can lose what you don't want to carry, by watching what you eat one day at a time. Use your emotions and your passions to fuel your desire and your hunger for achievement! You can do this, rock star!!
and BTW, shame on your friends and parents for making comments about your looks. How dare they!0 -

Hey there,
I can be your friend on here and lend you some support, I too know how hard it is to lose the weight once gained but it can be done.
Tell your parents it hurts you when they make comments and have it stop, you dont need negative from other people, we pile enough of that on ourselves.
Just try and cut back the sweets or choose a healthier less sugary late night snack and just get moving, you are talented and amazing and I just know you can do it!

First off... if you are going to lose weight you have to do it for YOU! It won't stay off if you are doing it to please others or meet somebody else's ideals. That being said, based on the stats you posted in your OP...
Your BMI is: 27.1
Target weight range: 136.4 - 184.4 lbs (18.5 - 25 BMI)
You are fine but if you want to lose there's your targets for a HEALTHY body.

Hey there! Welcome to the site! I am much the same way - a college student who gets so tired at the end of the day, all I want is to eat junk food and sweets to perk myself up.
You will also find support here from people who are also divorcing themselves from negative people and negative self-talk. One of the things that has finally helped me keep coming back and logging day after day is turning my "I'm so fat, omg!" talk to "We did another day of better food choices! Yay!". Positive and gentle to yourself is key.
You're in the right place!0 -
Welcome! I just turned 25 and I am in school to! I've been here since January. I haven't really been to focused, I log every day but I slip a lot. I have not let that deter me from logging though. I'm learning a lot about what I eat, and how to properly fuel my body. I signed on here needing to lose 65lbs. I have lost 10 so far. You can friend me if you want, I'm on here and I log everyday. I like to give and receive support.0

Hello Casey,
I was in the pretty much same boat as you. My weight kept creeping up and up over the corse of about 4 years (i gained about 140lbs all together!) and like you said, lose yourself in something other than you life.
I was at college and trying to start my own freelancing business at the same time, although I have a girlfriend who "loves me know matter what size" I knew she must have been concerned. Aswel as my family, friends and others commenting I was in a pretty self-loathing state.
Unfortunately, my answer to you isn't an easy one.. but it is a simple one. You need to ignore them all. If you're ever wanting to lose weight for someone else, it's not going to happen. To look good, attract men, stop hurtful comments.. It just won't happen. Even if you do lose weight, you'll pile it on again. Simply because it's a HUGE lifestyle change.. and for what? so people say you're pretty? That's how it was for me. I was expecting my life to be amazing if i was thin. Popular, interesting, smart - but that's not just how it is.
My solution in the end is: you need to do it for yourself. I spent weeks researching health benefits, new foods and exciting flavors, fun exercises like hiking (and geocaching!) It's really up to you. You need to realise how losing weight isn't solving your problems, but growing self-esteem, awareness of food, and a healthy attitude with it also - and the rest will follow.
Even in my early days of losing weight (say 14lbs or so) I felt so great, energetic and confident.. even though no one had noticed yet.
It sounds like an impossible task to love yourself at the moment, but put in the time and you will.

Hi,
I can definitely relate to you. Most of what you said describes the way I feel right now. I'm going to add you and hopefully we can motivate each other!0 -
I can so relate to this in more ways than one. First off, shut out the negativity from people around you, it's unecessary, hurtful and will not help you in any way. Secondly, realise that you're going to need more than physical changes to get healthy.
I've been exactly where you are.....a busy student and shift worker coupled with being "not the happiest" person and hello emotional addiction to food! I tried losing weight so many times, but until I addressed the psychological reasons why I ate, it never really worked for me. MFP has been a big part of that, it's a really useful tool in understanding how much and when you really eat, and it will open your eyes to see what you're really putting in your body.
Best of luck with your progress, feel free to add me as a friend if you need some support. :flowerforyou:0 -
Hey, you are not anywhere that most of us have not been before. The thing is though, when you choose to lose weight you cannot do it for your classmates or for your parents or even your boyfriend... You have to do it for yourself. Imagine how much easier it will be to get around and do things than it is now. Imagine not being out of breath walking up stairs. You can do this. I wish you well.. Just do it for you because YOU are worth it! It is a journey well worth taking but do it for yourself not anybody else.0

Casey: welcome to the site. You'll find some, great people here to listen and support you.
I'm so sorry to hear about the negative comments you're getting. Always remember that you are beautiful and special not because of clothes size or a number on a stupid scale, but because of who you are.
You have a lot of demands on your time and your success as a student is thanks to your inner strength - use that strength on this journey. You can do this.
Add me to your circle if you like.0 -
Aww you are so beautiful, and congratulations on your studies! :flowerforyou: Speaking as a mum, I can only think that perhaps your parents are concerned for your health? It's what parents do - nag their kids - but it should be done in a way that is caring and sensitive. Parents are not perfect either, sometimes we get it wrong. Tell them if the way they talk to you makes you upset.
By the sound of your stats you are only very slight overweight. This is the place to come and start logging your foods; see what is helping or hindering your overall health; get some exercise; eat to your target; and get support and see success stories by other MFP members.
Punch in all your stats into MFP and see what it suggests for your intake. Good luck, you will succeed when you are ready to do it for yourself. :flowerforyou:0
