Homemade "skillet" dishes

Hi guys... I'm pretty new to this thing, especially the calorie tracker. Here's my question: I often make dishes with whole foods like chicken breast or fish, brown rice, fresh veggies, and beans in an Olive oil spread or something similar. Usually I add each ingredient's calories to a list and add it all together to get a total for the whole skillet. Then I just dish out the plates and if I eat 1/4 of what's in the skillet. that's how I gauge my calorie intake. To put it into MFP, should I enter it as a "Personal food" and give it its own calorie count based on my portion, or should I enter the whole meal shebang and then just enter my quantity as a fraction of the whole. Or is there another even better way? Thanks in advance.:flowerforyou:

I would use the Recipe section. You can say how many servings the dish has in it then calcultes the calories per serving for you.0

i enter every thing in, then measure that way i know exactly what i am eating. pain in the butt at first, used to it now and i repeat dishes if i like them so they are already there.0

Thank you both... I think I'll try the recipe thing, because I cook like my dad and make it up as I go along... maybe this way I can repeat an especially good dish!0

I know what you mean about making it up as you go, that's me. I just weigh everything as I add it then use those amounts to figure out what my portion was for that meal. I rarely make things exactly the same way twice, so other than a few more complicated recipes that I've saved, my diary reads more like a grocery list. If I'm really concerned about being exact for a portion, I'll still weigh as I go, but I'll do two skillets keeping mine separate.0
