I was told by a specialist for my kidneys that if you are going once an hour you are properly hydrated.

Now I do not know if that is for everyone or me specifically but 30 - 60 minutes isn't bad unless you are in a car... and then it sucks.

um.... depends on how many pregnancies you put your body through...

I have 2 kids. The 'going to the bathroom all the time' has never gotten better for me.

    Agree.
I had only one daughter and go all the time. Drinking water makes it worse, but it's better. I just think of it as a short little break from work. lol

That's the whole purpose behind drinking water for weight loss...the more you drink, the more you pee, the more you pee, the more you move, the more you move the more calorie deficit you have, the more calorie deficit you have, the more weight you lose.

    It's the circle of life.

    True that.

My son who rarely pees no matter how much he drinks thinks I have the tiniest bladder in the world. He might be right. Just reading this thread has made me need to go.

It's normal and it will always happen, wear a fit bit so you can add up all those extra steps to the bathroom.

wowzers.. thanks, everyone, for your responses! :flowerforyou:

I was really hoping that either my [dehydrated] body would hold on to more water, or my bladder would get stronger. either might sound silly, but I was just hoping there was some relief (pardon the pun) in the semi-near future. Its a good thing I'm not tethered to my desk all day at work!

For the first month I was going to the bathroom every 45 minutes. Now it's been 2 months and it's every hour and a half or so and I'm averaging 10-12 cups a day, more on days I workout. It's inconvenient at work, but oh well.

Within a couple weeks my trips to the bathroom decreased. However, I've eaten a lot of foods over the holiday that I don't normally eat, and could tell they were high in salt, and now I"m back to the "geez, my co-workers are going to think there's something wrong with me" frequency.

    I'm 232lbs and I drink anywhere between 12-15 16oz glasses a day.

The more you drink over a period of time, your body starts to say "Hey, I'm starting to like this"

That, or your bladder starts holding more at a time...because no matter how much your body "likes" water, I can't imagine it stores it away...(but if I'm wrong and it does, could someone please explain *where* it keeps it?)

Yes, your bladder does get more used to holding a little more, so the frequency should go down a little. But you will still be peeing more. :)

Hello- It hydrates your muscles and organs on the cellular level. The amount of sodium and other elements makes a difference too (as another poster mentioned) with function and the extra fluid is held in your tissue (hence the "swelling" that people may experience). Waste/toxins & nutrient/element transfers can increase in the capillaries to tissue (muscle/nerves,etc) and organs (brain, liver, kidneys) all over the body with decreased sodium and available fluid (blood not as thick). In with the good out with the bad, essentially, so drink and pee merry!

    hope this helps-

I'd worry if I wasn't peeing! It's good, it means you're hydrated, you're flushing your toxins, and that you're not retaining fluids.

Honestly, I was never a drinker. I never drank more than a few cups of coffee in the morning and MAYBE 16oz of iced tea or whatever a day... I drink some water when I'm at Zumba... but still not alot.

I'm guessing I've always been dehydrated and must have gotten used to it.. it's starting to sound like I don't know what it's like to be hydrated! YIKES! lol

That sounds like a good explanation of the difference between dehydration and adequate hydration.

I'm not sure it's still applicable to going from adequate hydration to excessive hydration.

Your body will start using it. It is actually amazing how much water our bodies really do need. Give it a couple of weeks - that's how long it took me. I drink 32 oz before leaving for work at 8:00 am and drink another one before lunch. Then I work on the last one between lunch and before going to bed. This way I'm not up all night :)

It depends on your body. I used to go and go and go etc.. every night I would get up 2 to 3x's a night to go and go etc. Not anymore. I drink my 8 glasses a day and then some. I drink during class and in the car etc. You need to drink to flush out your kidneys and keep things moving along. If you don't drink enough water your more likely to get constipated or develop kidney stones etc.
