Has losing weight improved other areas of your life too?

Well hello there
I've only been doing MFP for a month or so but I'm reaping other benefits too. I previously had no motivation to lose weight but now I feel motivated to do other things too. Knowing that I do have the willpower gave me the confidence to try other things I have been putting off for ages. One was changing my career and I just started a training course yesterday to work with disadvantaged families for a charity I support. Other benefits I've noticed are;

My cooking skills are much better from trying out new recipes and ingredients
I'm having less spot breakouts and my skin looks fresher
My nails are growing strong for the first time ever

How about you? Getting chatted up more? Are you now working in a fitness related career? Let us know, share that inspiration :)

Absolutely! And I never even thought about the other benefits until I started experiencing them.

*Like yourself, my cooking has gotten a lot better. My fiance is definitely thankful for that!
*Because of my weight loss, I have fallen in love with Yoga and am now going about become a certified yoga instructor.
*My fiance is a minor league baseball player and in the summer, I will be joining his leisure co-ed team. I hated sports before(but I think that was because I could barely participate) now we can be active together

And the non physical benefits like being happier, laughing more. I was perfectly okay with sitting in all the time. Now I love going out and being a social butterfly!

Woo it's brilliant that you have found something you love, and a great way to stay fit forever once you become an instructor.

As my weight comes of, my self-confidence is increasing. I'm not the biggest one in the room anymore.

    - more energy to do things
    - not so afraid to go clothes-shopping anymore
    - branching out in my cooking also
    - I'm cold ALL the time this winter!
  • With my weight loss obviously the first thing to change was my health and endurance. here are some other things that surprised me:

-Sex life. I tend to blow my husbands mind more and I thought I was amazing before....(soo many new positions!)
-Mood- I feel like I can handle things better now that the exercise helps me process emotions
-"Fat girl" jokes- whether on myself or from others on public they have faded away. No longer do I get stares going into a store with my sister (like Aeropostale) or hear the fat jokes/laughs at restaurants.
-Laughs- No longer do I walk by anyone laughing and feel like it is directed at me.
-Hot piece of *kitten*- I actually get checked out and hit on now.. I would never leave my husband but damn what a good feeling!!

Since losing weight, I defintely get talked/flirted with more when I am out.
    I have found self-confidence.
I fell in love with Zumba and I am currently working on becoming a certified Zumba instructor.

I still have about 60lbs left to lose but I feel great enough to be able to do what I want when I want without thinking twice.

At first I thought it would be nice to look good but now that I'm nearly there it's the self respect I have that is important and the respect I have gained from others.

God no!! We just messed around there. I have self-respect! K-mart, however, is a much classier place.

-my cooking skills have gone to a new level (people as me now "so what's for dinner tonight")
    -I'm much happier
    -confidence level has improved
-I like putting on jeans now lol
  • I had sleep apnea and now it's gone. Getting rid of the mask is a big relief. I definitely feel better all around and have tons of energy. Still lacking in the girl department. I'm guessing a guy has to have a six pack before he gets a look.
  • I fell in love with Zumba and I am currently working on becoming a certified Zumba instructor.

That's great, my friend took up Zumba to lose weight, now she's running her own class and she looks amazing

I am enjoying my new found flexibility
I have gained so many great friends that are very supportive
I catch a glimpse of myself in a store window and say "Daaaaaaaaamn"

Sex life has... definitely improved. Not that my wife and I actually have alone time with 4 screaming children destroying the house 24 hours a day but when it happens it's a lot better than it was!

I went from working night shifts for ten years sitting on my fat broken flat *kitten* in a hotel on the side of the interstate in the Louisiana swamp, now Im a photog on my feet all day in NYC and I flex my abs in the mirror.

I didnt date for 7 years, now I like walking around naked if I can feel your eyes on me from the bed.

I used to be too scared to walk down a moving escalator because I didnt trust my ankles, now I slide down the banister on the stairs.

I used to take slow calculated steps because I was scared my body was going to crumble to pieces, but now I thunder and plod and gallop and land all over the place.

Its still extremely nerve racking for me to go downstairs and not have a rail to hold, I mean TERRIFYING, but I spent all weekend trying to run down the middle to convince myself i wont topple forward.

I used to have a much weaker disposition when it came to speaking up about what I want and need and what I cant understand or cant handle, getting physically stronger changed that.

I used to be a door mat - now Im a bouncer.

    yay on the sleep apnea!

To clear up the six pack thing, my gent hasn't got one and I love him to pieces- fell in love with his intelligence and balls out confidence (in both literal and metaphorical senses xD )

I'm guessing this has less to do with women, and more to do with your constant complaining about women. I can guarantee you that no one I've ever been with has had a 6 pack. In fact, my guy is 4" shorter than me, 15 years older than me, and effing hot. Without a 6 pack.

Yeah I agree, a 6 pack on a guy is waaaay at the bottom of my list, a nice face, great to talk to and relatively fit is good for me! Never been a huge fan of muscles and a six pack really.

This one is coming up a lot! Definitely an added bonus!

Stop dwelling on the six pack abs and stop calling women shallow or "girls"... your odds might improve.
