Weight training does help to lose weight, but your main focus should be CARDIO it is the key to lose weight, keep doing some strength training as it will help your skin to stay tight and your body to get a better form.
See we can be helpful - now with calories try to get most of your calories from Protein and forget about added sugar, empty calories [calories that won't bring anything good to your body] and just try to move as much as you can.
People in this forum aren't just all friend already I arrived last week, decided to hit on everybody and boom now I keep chatting and having fun while keeping track of my progress and getting good vibes.

Thank you zeraus that makes a lot of sense a lot more then what others tell me. they just tell me to just go with how i feel and how my clothes feel. And I know that I am being negative tonight that is because I feel extremely alone on here. I mean my boyfriend reads these all the time and is with you guys. To be honest I can't stand reading these things. Does that make sense?0

I do not agree that cardio should necessarily be her main focus. It depends on her goals and her likes/dislikes. I am not sure why it was even brought up.0 -

I have found the best way to get the info I need is to go on the forums, use the search function and read the responses to threads about similar issues to mine.
Occasionally, there aren't any, or my question is too specific, so I post a topic. Posting topics about why everyone is mean and/or rude has never ended well (I lurk like a mo-fo, for the giggles).
I add people who I think give awesome advice, who are super-sensible, or who crack me up with their forum responses.
I've built up a friends list that I'm happy to support and be supported by, and I've gradually honed my knowledge about weight-loss through research on here and other sites that people have linked to from here.
It's taken me a year, but I'm in it for the long-haul. I don't belong to a 'clique' - I just have my MFP friends, and I interact with them whenever I can.
This site is an amazing tool, but it is a TOOL. You can't expect it to do the work without your input.0 -
So I have a question for everyone on here. Why is it that MFP is starting to look more like facebook? Aren't we suppose to be using this website to help us lose weight not a dating site? I know that a lot of you will either ignore this or will laugh because you think you are better then me but I am just asking.

Ok. Not writing this to be harsh but because you don't seem to get it. Or you're trolling.
Posting whiney threads about not having friends is not the way to make friends.
Presenting a complaint in statement form with the implication that you have a problem therefore someone else is supposed to fix it is a strategy healthy adults avoid. It is for children ::"he hit me " "my pants are poopy " etc. Healthy adults seek relationships with other healthy adults.
Therefore whining vague posts like this in which you declare a problem and expect someone to fix it for you only make your problem worse.
Want friends? Go in the forums and find someone you think seems cool. Then send a friend request with a message.0 -
You have been here a month....yes, some of us have been friends for years and have formed little "circles of friends".
It is understandable that it is hard to break in and join one of those.
Most people aren't actively seeking new friends, they feel they have enough (myself included), but if the RIGHT person comes along that I click with, then there's always room for one more...
If you go into the "introduction" threads, there are a TON of "I just joined today and I want friends" posts.
Just go in there, pick a thread, and add people from the whole thread, they will be doing the same, and voila, instant mutual friends who are all fairly new.
That's one way. Another is to get yourself out there, participate in some of the fun threads, discussions, games, etc. Once you find someone you like, send them a message with a request. People will recognize you. "oh, I've seen that girl on a few threads, sh'e funny/nice/whatever", and they'll be more likely to accept.
Right now, all you've done is create a conundrum for yourself where people will see you and think, "oh, THAT girl who started the whiny nobody-likes-me-thread....no thanks..."
Also, seek out people with similar goals. Find a group for people who are looking to lose 100 pounds, or a group for people in their early 20s...and put up a pic where you don't look so mean!
Best of luck to you. I hope you lose all 100 of those pounds, make a ton of friends, and look back on this and think, "that was real silly of me to start that thread!"
(also, weight training is SO important. If you stick with only cardio and dieting you will weigh less but you will never look good naked. Strength is where it's at, to get you the body you really want.)0 -

For many, the social aspect of this site is what keeps them coming back, therefore, it lends to its success. If you don't find the social aspect of this site beneficial, then you are welcome not to use it.

unfortunately, op, after reading your replies, you seem defensive and a tad combative. that tends to put people off.
just being honest.
as for the facebook thing, lol well i deleted that 2+ years ago and dont regret it at all. there are negative people everywhere, ( internet and life)try to befriend people that are the opposite and surround yourself with positive upbeat people:)
dont rely on any social sites for true friendship, only extra support until you're able to tell who really counts in your personal daily life. just my advice. good luck! and feel free to add me if ya want0 -

Ironically, this is a very "facebook" thing to say.
you probably will not endear yourself to many people by basically insulting them by saying they are childish and flirty, that puts people on defense. So it shouldn't surprise you if there are defensive responses.
I don't know how others handle it, but here's how I do it -- i use the site, mainly, to track exercise and food. I have picked up some "friends" along the way and will occasionally post on walls, or do status updates, and I come to the forums to joke around (primarily). I don't take myself or others too seriously. if someone wants to drop me as a friend, then they do. If i request a friend and they accept, fantastic. but neither is going to effect my day.0 -

Sorry, I could not resist. weight loss can be an individual thing but I issued a challenge to my friends and it has motivated me and a few others to up their workouts as a friendly competition which has included some smack talking. It is what yo want it to be. Good luck on your journey!0 -

Well, when it involves people, people will socialize. I don't see what's wrong with finding friends, dates, partners who have the same interest. I think it's good because we all know how hard it is to lose weight/fats and it would be good to find someone who understand and have the same goal

I know it can seem that everyone is one great big family when you are new, but soon you will realize that not everyone knows one another, and not everyone likes one another. If you are worried about people having too many friends already, try sticking closer to the join dates or posting an intro thread if you haven't already.0

MFP is like life... it takes time to find and make friends with the people who populate your friends list... it doesn't just happen all at once. But once you get there, the forums don't really mean jack anymore, your support base is entirely your own wall... you just gotta be patient to get there.0
