A Pin Drop
JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when
DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US
Military out of France as soon as possible.
Rusk responded,
"Does that include those who are buried here?"
DeGaulle
Did not respond.

When in England ,
At a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the
Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of
'empire building' by George Bush.
He answered by saying,
"Over the years, the United States has sent many of
Its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom
Beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for
In return is enough to bury those that did not
Return."

There was a conference in France
Where a number of international engineers
Were taking part, including French and American. During a break,
One of the French engineers came back into the room saying, "Have you
Heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft
Carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he
Intend to do, bomb them?"
A Boeing engineer
Stood up and replied quietly: "Our carriers have three
Hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are
Nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to
Shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to
Feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand
Gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a
Dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and
From their flight deck. We have eleven such ships;
How many does France have?"

A U.S. Navy Admiral
Was attending a naval conference that included
Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French
Navies At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large
Group of officers that included personnel from most of those countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a
French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many
Languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, "Why is it that
We always have to speak English in these conferences rather than
Speaking French?"
Without hesitating,
The American Admiral replied, "Maybe it's because the
Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't
Have to speak German."

AND
THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE...
Robert Whiting,
An elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.
At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport
In his carry on.
“Have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked
Sarcastically.
Mr. Whiting
Admitted that he had been to France
Previously.
"Then You should know enough to have your passport ready."
The American said,
"The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."
"Impossible..
Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France !"
The American senior
Gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he
Quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at OmahaBeach on D-Day in
1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen
To show a passport to."

I suppose I am going to be the odd man out here.I am a Veteran although it is now over 16 years since I last wore the uniform.
Thanks for your service. I understand fighting for freedom, and I appreciate how many in the armed forces and veterans agree with your statement. This is more for non-military said by someone not in the military. I wish Westboro Church wouldn't be allowed to exercise all those freedoms, but that's just me.
Thanks for crapping on what was supposed to be a positive post, though.0 -
Good post! I agree whole heartedly but also agree with digitalbill. Freedoms are freedoms...whether I agree with how they are exercised or not.
As a flyboy's daughter (and yes, my dad flew) and a grunt's wife...HOOAH!
Oh...and anysoldier is a great way to connect with our military and send things over that they want and need! I send care packages every couple of months. They also love art/pictures by children!0 -
Or Chuck Norris.
WHOO! Isn't Chuck Norris military?
*ran to go check* Huh! You are right... Did not know that... He was in the Air Force. He was in the Security Forces in S. Korea.... No wonder he knows how to kick *kitten* so well.
Oh yeah. Military = KICKING *kitten* and spitting out Chuck Norris.0 -

That's a dangerous road to go down.0

My Uncle is in the Military and will be spending Christmas with us
. Couldn't be more proud of him and all others that have served past and present

If anyone wants another way to support the military over the holidays - look into sending a care package, send some Christmas cards. A little really goes a long way. Imagine - you are 18, away from home for the first time, hearing gun shots and bombs, sleeping in a tent. Where were you last Christmas? You were home with family. You had a warm, home cooked meal and you opened presents. What do you do this year? Stand your post and hope that your next meal isn't an MRE, but maybe, just maybe something warm and fresh. Even just a card showing that you are thinking of them is a great thing. If you can send some socks, t-shirts, batteries and magazines, that goes so far....0

lol @ coasties.
Why you laughing at Coasties....huh?.....punk! :grumble:
I almost missed this! :flowerforyou: Love ya Patti!.....my favorite (heavy on the sarcasm) is "so, you're in the Coast Guard? do they operate like the military, you change units every year?......"
"um, no, it's not 'like' the military, it IS the military thanks!"0 -
"so, you're in the Coast Guard? do they operate like the military, you change units every year?......""um, no, it's not 'like' the military, it IS the military thanks!"
Much respect for you. You know that!0 -
Semper Paratus!
My husband is retired Coast Guard. I too have had to correct others when they question whether or not the Coast Guard is "real military". heh
Much respect and appreciation to all those who have served, past and present.
If anyone wishes to show support for Coasties serving overseas this holiday season, the Coast Guard Foundation is accepting holiday cards to be sent to overseas personnel.
