HRM for swimming?

I'm really new to the idea of a heart rate monitor. I was thinking it might be a good idea to more accurately figure out calories burned, etc. I like the idea, but I'd need to be able to use one while swimming, as that is my primary exercise. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? I would appreciate the advice. Thank you!

Heart Rate monitors don't work under water. The transmissions don't travel through water.0

I have a Sigma heart rate monitor and it says it can be used for swimming. I haven't used it in water though.0
