I know this question has probably been answer only a million times.... but I'm one of the few that just doesn't know! I know I need a heart rate monitor, and that one that comes with a chest strap is more accurate. So, my question is what is the best, and most AFFORDABLE heart rate monitor to purchase??
THank you everyone in advance for your input and advice on this subject!!

I'm a huge fan of my Polar FT7. I was able to get additional chest straps on Amazon for like $14. Since then, I've purchase 3 for loved ones.0

I have bought a lot of gear from Running Warehouse. They have an excellent no hassle return policy. You can even return shoes after running in them.0 -
FT7 here as well. No complaints. I also have a Bowflex brand HRM that I picked up for somewhere around $30 at Big 5 Sporting Goods a while back, and it did a fine job also. The entire front of the chest strap is plastic so not quite as comfortable as the Polar, but not bad. I actually like the display on the Bowflex better, as I can see both time and heart rate on the same screen without having to toggle back and forth between them like the Polar. Accuracy between them seems about the same - the Bowflex always read my heart rate correctly and the calorie burns displayed were in line with what the Polar says. It doesn't log multiple workouts like the Polar does (I log my workouts online anyways), but for a simple HRM it filled the purpose perfectly. Truth be told, I only upgraded to the Polar because I can't resist shiny new "toys". :bigsmile:0

Polar FT4 or FT7! :glasses:0

I've had the Polar FT4 and FT7: both are great!
Go to the polar website and they have a buyers guide (to make sure that you get the right one). I recommend not going with anything too fancy (as it will also be more complicated and expensive) unless you actually plan to be a tri-sport athlete.
Also, make sure that you get a coded chest strap; some of the lowest end models do not have coded chest straps and you will wind up getting readings from anyone else wearing a monitor (or using a cardio machine that monitors heart rate).
Yeah Polar! :flowerforyou:0 -
Hubby has used the Polar FT7 for a year and a half and swears by it. So much so I bought a FT4 a few weeks ago and absolutely love it too! World of difference in my workouts! Got ours on Ebay for around $50.0

Totally my favorite HRM! The strap is my favorite part cause its super comfy! I have a heart condition so sometimes i have to wear it all day to keep an eye on my HR so it works great even just normal wear!0 -
Those of you who have the FT40 and FT60, I presume it's because it's because of the extra programmes. What do you think of them. Is it worth paying the extra than the FT4?0

I got a good deal on amazon for mine only 59.15, but I see it went up since I bought mine yesterday.

Do a google search and type in cheap Polar FT4 HRM and you can find some that range from $59 in the low to mid $60's0 -
I have an FT1. Basic functionality but I love it.0

I have the Polar FT4 but actually found the watch that came with the "men's" set to be much more comfortable. (and the silver is nicer looking than the weird coppery color of the "women's".
I put the genders in quotes since I got the exact same chest band with both and the watches both had the same length wrist strap on them. So the only difference I could see between the men's and women's is the color and that the sides of the watch on the men's were a little smoother/more rounded so it was more comfortable on my wrist.0 -
Thanks everyone for all the advice!! You guys are great!0
