celebrating a major NSV!

I AM CELEBRATING TONIGHT!!! I'm a type 2 diabetic, and I swung by my doctor's office this afternoon and asked for a copy of my last two sets of lab results. My HbA1C (which assesses average blood glucose levels over the previous three months) in July was 8.5 -- which is as bad as it was when I was first diagnosed and had visible damage to my skin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granuloma_annulare ... the dermatologist who diagnosed it is the person who suggested I be tested for diabetes, resulting in my diagnosis).
After only one month of testing, low glycemic eating, and tracking all my food intake (thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Glycemic Index Diet for Dummies and MFP!!!!!) my HbA1C is now 6.2!!!!!!! (This is at the high end of NORMAL! -- as in NON diabetic!) I keep randomly laughing out loud and grinning my fool head off! It's actually WORKING!! All the sacrifices I made, putting major areas of life on the back burner so I could make my health a priority and dedicate a few months to cementing new, healthy habits... it's all worth it for these numbers! The weight loss is a nice fringe benefit, but this progress -- this is the reason I'm on this journey.
And I had other bad numbers in July, too. My cholesterol numbers were all out of range by a fair bit, carbon dioxide was low, vitamin D was low, and there were others too. THEY ARE ALL WELL WITHIN NORMAL RANGE NOW!!!! Talk about motivation to keep going! :oD
How am I celebrating this, you might wonder? I did Week 2 Day 1 of Couch to 5K -- which was an amazing experience in and of itself, considering that last week for day 3 I did 2.05 miles at ~14 min/mile and today I did 2.42 miles at 12:48 min/mile -- then had a tasty and healthy post-workout meal, and now I am going to go snuggle with my hubby and watch something funny while letting my massage machine work out the kinks in sore calves. ♥
