which one? The longest was my own doing- I was working out like crazy, but all I was doing was eating back the calories (and sometimes more) that I worked off. I also wasn't cross training.
Changed it up 3 weeks ago (last plateau- about 8 months same weight range). Got my butt in gear to log in here no matter what, log my food, log my workouts. And crosstraining. Plateau over! Dropped 12 lbs in the last 3 weeks. I was really not watching my calories before- and I am not going to let this happen again. I am just an inch or 2 away from a smaller dress size, as well as a weight I haven't seen in years0 -
4 weeks ago at 22 pounds lost and have not moved. I am trying to exercise more, but doesn't seem to be working. Everybody tells me to change something up so I am adding jogging to the mix in my work out. We'll see.0

Sadly to say, I am at week 7 plateau... I've lost 32 pounds but can't seem to budge it. I've upped and lowered calories, changed my workout and even stopped working out some, trying different things...hopefully soon it will break. Got a little down and ate lots of junk at times, haven't gained just fluctuating but just not losing anymore. Frustrating to say the least but hanging in there!0

What is your diet like? There may be a trigger food (s) affecting your success. How are your workouts? Are you drenched in sweat after you work out?0 -
I have changed my foods, and workouts. I admitted I was eating junk cause I was depressed bout not losing weight or inches, but haven't gained. Just fluctuates, Eating better now. I don't want to give up but at times I feel like it. I hate plateaus...at least when you're losing it helps keep you motivated.0

Check out this website. Tons of amazing science behind set points and how to lower them through limiting starches and sweets, while adding protein rich foods.

I hit my plateau after losing 110 pounds and now within my last 15 pounds to goal. I haven't lost any weight in almost a year now.0

I have lost about 32ish pounds. Started at 250lbs and I was at 217lbs for the last 3 months. I have decided to increase my calories, and lower carbs for protein. I have also intensified my workouts by adding ankle weights, resistance bands, jump rope, etc.
I got on the scale tonight, and I am finally down to 216. I have been discouraged because of this, but I kind of just think about it as "practicing maintenance for when i reach my goal weight".0 -
I posted this on another thread:
I found this article very helpful:
https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/weight-loss-plateau/MY01152
One thing the article says is, ”You burn fewer calories than you did at your heavier weight even doing the same activities. Your weight-loss efforts result in a new equilibrium with your now slower metabolism. At this new equilibrium, calories eaten equals calories expended. This means that to lose more weight, you need to increase activity or decrease the calories you eat. Using the same approach that worked initially may maintain your weight loss, but it won’t lead to more weight loss.”
I recently experienced a real-life example of this. The software I use to calculate the calories I burn on my mini-bike takes into account my height, weight, age, bike resistance level, speed, and duration.
In late October I was too sick to exercise for a week. When I started up again I dialed my resistance level down and then worked my way back up again. When I raised it to level 4 on Nov. 8 and biked for an hour at 13 mph, my software told me that I had burned 574 calories.
I checked my spreadsheet. I had done the exact same activity — biked for an hour at 13 mph at resistance level 4 — back on October 10.
But back on October 10 I had burned 747 calories! That’s a 173-calorie difference for the exact same activity!
Two things had changed in the interim:
1. I became a year older, and
2. I lost eight pounds.
Becoming a year older actually meant that I burned two additional calories during my November 8 workout than I otherwise would have. The main change occurred because I was eight pounds lighter on November 8 than I had been on October 10.
That means that to burn the same number of calories I had burned on October 10, all else being equal, I have to work harder! As it is, I’m quite content with having burned 574 calories. :-) But this is a concrete example of why weight loss can slow or plateau.0 -
My plateau was from October 2010 to November 2012. I stayed between 170 and 175 for 26 months.
I had to increase my intensity for my workouts and combine that with 2 sessions per day of 40 minute 3.5-4mph walks. Once I proved I could keep that up consistently for 90 days - I lowered my caloric intake and quit strength training for 2 weeks and BOOM - Happy Thanksgiving - you lost 9 pounds and change.
And it stayed off.
So now Im training balls to the wall and dgaf about the little fluctuations while im kicking *kitten*0 -
I had one at somewhere around the 175 mark (30lbs down) for a month or two and restarted by workout out harder. Now I might just be finishing another one - 42lbs down (give or take 1 or 2!) - which has been 4 months. No amount of changing exercise, workout harder (or less), eating more, eating less, cutting all processed foods/sweets/cakes/etc out of my diet, changing my macros or anything has helped. I've dropped 1 or 2 lbs this month which is less then I'd like but a vast improvement on 0 so I'm hoping I'm on the move again!
I should point out that because of other health issues too I had a blood test and am apparently developing thyroid problems which might explain it in my case. It is incredibly frustrating and demotivating though.0 -
Every time I've lost weight, I hit one at 40 pounds. Every. Single. Time.
The same thing happened this time, but instead of giving up and gaining it all back and then some, I stayed with it and reassessed my calories, macros, and exercise. Now it's coming off again, thank goodness. I hovered around 38-41 pounds lost for about eight weeks. It was a bit discouraging.0 -
Thank you everyone, Im trying to up my calories and change up my exercise. some. I think i was'nt eating enough i would eat like 1400 calories a day then work off 400-600 a day so i upped it to 1750 and work off 300-600 now hoping this works. I deffinatly am NOT giving up. I never wanna be that fat again.0
