How do I say "NO"?

A simple No Thank you does the trick. If they're more persistent I usually say that I've already had my treat for the day.0

I say no....then I create a "forum discussion" in the break room about why people are SO MEAN.....
and label various people in the lunch room as bullies...
works everytime.

Just say you're trying to eat healthier/less junk food. That way, it's not about weight-loss, so you don't get the weird looks.0

Claim a food allergy, not a lethal one, just say it makes you cramp.0

If someone at the office is offering something you don't want because it doesn't fit your calorie budget or isn't something you want just politely say no thank you.
If they are handing out "gifts" and it's a wrapped thing of like, chocoalte chip cookies, accept it, say thank you, take it home and give it to someone else. Or just eat one when your calories permit.
If they invite you to a party, go. Most parties have a fruit/veggie tray. Enjoy that. Be polite and live your life. You don't have to turn it down.
There's also the earlier suggestion, explain you already ate and you're really not that hungry.
Or, you could just be honest. That you're trying to get in better shape. There are a lot of polite ways to go about this.0 -
how about "no thanks" and then a polite smile0

I hear ya...I love this time of year but hate all the goodies always being thrown in my face...well, not literally lol. Anyway, just say "no thanks, I'm full from all the protein and water I drink throughout the day" LMAO0

Say: "Hell no. If I eat that I will look like you." Then walk away. Wont be a problem ever again.0
-
Vary your reasons for turning down. Sick, full, just ate, going out tonight, don't like (flavor). Occasionally take some but don't eat it. Occasionally eat something you do want and enjoy.
Don't say "No thanks I'm trying to lose weight." Because while having the advantage of being the truth, it automatically makes people feel self conscious for partaking or for offering and that's not especially polite. It's the kind of truth that makes you feel better but others feel worse.0 -

The holiday season is here and there are a lot of luncheons, cookies, baking and social activities that revolve around eating junk food. My will power to avoid these kinds of foods has gotten quite good, and I don't even crave them as much anymore. Not to say I don't treat myself everynow and then cause I do allow myself to do that. So here is the problem:
How do I politely say "No" to the people offering me these foods without A) sounding crazy or insulting them.
I don't wanna sound crazy because I am not overweight. I am 5"5 inches and about 128 lbs. When I tell people I am tryign to be careful about what I eat they always ask me "why?" and probably think I have a self image problem or an eating disorder. I also worry about insulting the people around me who are bigger than me. What if they think that I think they are overweight and I am judging them? I honestly don't care what other people decide to put into their bodies and I don't judge them for it. I also think that people should indulge every now and then, but you gotta draw the line somewhere. A friend of mine suggested that I tell them I have a health problem that prevents me from eating those kinds of food because people are more likely to accept a health problem as an excuse rather than "I am just trying to watch my weight". But I can't bring myself to lying, plus I have not always been this health conscious and my co-workers have all seen me eat junk food before.
So what is the best way to say NO to these people?
My preferred method is this:
"No thank you"
THIS!! You don't owe anyone an explanation .. most wouldn't even bother to ask why.
If you must say something .. be honest. It's the only way. Tell them you aren't big on sweets anymore. You can easily say .. "I'm full .. or I just had a piece" .. No one's gonna tie you up in a chair, pry your mouth open and force it down your throat .. LOL (Unless everyone just got stupid drunk and you lost a bet and let yourself be fed) :-P
I've never been a big person .. I'm currently 5'4 and weigh 115 lbs. Most people are bigger than me. I don't think I've ever offended someone by saying No Thank You with a polite smile. :flowerforyou:0 -
I start to cry and put my head in my hands, whimpering... "why is everyone determined to make me fat! no one loves me for me! I can't do it any more!" then I raise my head and grab two fistfuls of food and jam them into my mouth, get up, stomp off, mumbling (with my mouth full)... "I hate you people!"
hee hee
"no thank you" works better tho.0 -

We're having a pizza party today. I just said I forgot about it, and brought my own lunch. they are starting to get used to it because I do it every.single.time. People learn after a while, to stop asking you.0

I've never gotten how people find it insulting to say no to eating someones cookies, you're not having sex with their mother, just declining a baked good.
If you know the person will give you *kitten* for eating healthy just lie and say "Sorry man, I'm too full. I was just at KFC and ate a whole family feast to myself". They'll understand.0 -

We have some pushy people around here these days. It's annoying. It doesn't help that I generally am anti-social anyway. I'm just don't fit in here at all. LOL. So, my healthy eating is just another thing that makes me "different". lol.0 -
Be courteous, say no thanks. Dunno why people need to justfy things.
"no thanks im trying to lose weight/be healthy/blah blah blah"
You just sound pompous and ungrateful.
If pressed, "I don't want any (right now.)" should get the point accross.
Most people do not care why/why not and it's not worth getting into the details.
If someone really wants to press you beyond these two simple responses, they better be ready for a full blown explanation.
Kimmy posted exactly what I was going to suggest.
"Try this!"
"No, thanks."
"But....."
"No, I really don't want any."
That's all the "justification" you need.0 -
I'm of a healthy, fit weight and have been for years and still say no to everything I don't want. It is called being assertive. If they don't like it they can kiss my @ss, but honestly I haven't had that many issues with that. Usually people are ok with "No thank you!".0

I like to scream, throw things, cause a scene, hyperventilate, rip my clothes off, poop on the floor, sling it at people, steal cars, go on high speed police chases, crash, get tasered and arrested, post bail, then calmly return to the person and say "No thanks."

A topic near and dear to my heart. I'm on the skinny side, so I get what the OP says about feeling weird about turning food down. People do look at you as if you have an eating disorder if you are skinny, and aren't eating 3 servings of pie during a luncheon.
I do just politely say "No thank you" if it's not a treat I've planned into my day. That doesn't mean I don't get irritated at the food pushers.0
