help! im thinking about asking for it for christmas. i used to have a polar HRM but i lost it in the hurricane. =/ what draws me to the fuelband is that it also doubles as a pedometer and general fitness tracker, but i really really need a good tracker for calories burned during cardio sessions as well.

thoughts? reviews? i need to know if i should go for it or just stick with polar... thanks guys :)

Fuelband is not a heart rate monitor per se. The Fuelband uses an accelerometer to gauge your activity and output as "Fuel" points. That is Nike's unit of measurement for activity. The inherent flaw is in its design. Since its an accelerometer, anything you do that is activity, but does not necessarily involve movement of the wrist, won't be recognized as Fuel. For example, you're get down on the ground and crank out 25 pushups. No Fuel points because your wrist was stationary. Same thing with say a stationary bike.

So if you want something that will act as a motivator, pedometer, watch, and "Fuel" calculator, its fun. But if you want something that is accurate, then a conventional heart rate monitor is the way to go.

My cousins all have one --- and it looks cool but it doesn't count their calories at all. I'd stick with getting another HRM, maybe one of the new Garmin ones that have GPS so you can keep track of mileage as well? I love my Polar (when I use it;)!

Get a body media link. They are hands down the best ( i have used fit bit and other like things) Body media really has a leg up. Look into it! ( I think they are on sale right now too with Amazon!)

I have one. I started using it five days ago. it does track steps and also gives me a tracking method throughout the day. The Nike Fuel is their way of tracking activity. I will say that setting the daily goal high around 4000 or higher makes me take stairs instead of elevators and also makes me want to keep moving. It is new technology and another toy but from what I read and so far for me it keeps you engaged in burning calories. also the fact that it is also a watch doesn't hurt. The software is also easy to use.
