tired of boring water...

Sometimes I get tired of the boring plain taste in water, but I dont want to go back to drinking soda all the time like I use to even tho I only drank diet. Anyways, is flavored water ok? if it says no calories or sugars? Or is that just as unhealthy?

  • I honestly can't stand water, so i just drink green tea and other kind of teas :) you can add a spoon of honey to it but not more ;)
  • The only time I can drink plain water is while I am exercising.....but during the day and evening, I drink water w/ crystal light....I also drink my coffee in the AM - and usually an iced coffee in the afternoon.

Add lemons, limes, mint leaves etc to make it more interesting. Usually with flavored water there is some sugar substitute in it to make it taste sweet. If you read articles about this they say they can make you put on more weight in the long run than real sugar

Sure. I get the unsweetened no sodium mandarin fizzy waters.
Drink whatever you like, just add the calories if it has any.
  • I can totally relate. I normally cant drink plain water unless its VERY cold. I do drink bottled water at work, I buy one of those big 55oz bottles and I get to keep it in the freezer while I am working, so I can drink it. At home though... I just cant do it. I use those little flavor packets that you put in water. But to answer your question, even though it doesnt have calories or sugar, it does have artificial sweetener in it. And a lot of people swear that artificial sweeteners arent good for you. BUT, I figure until I can make myself get used to drinking plain water on a regular basis, its better then soda and juices. Lesser of the evils, right? Hopefully!

I get tired of plain water too sometimes. I use low/no calorie drink mixes and zero calorie flavored waters and teas. It's probably not as ideal as just water but sometimes you just need that extra umph! I also only have one flavored drink (bottle) per day if possible, just enough to offset the plain water. The lemons/limes idea is great too!

In answer to the Poster I also have a hard time just drinking plain water unless it is iced. I do drink ice herbal tea but my favorite is sugar free Koolaid and I add Stevia to sweeten it. I know there is a debate whether to count water as just plain water or other beverages as water. .I count my Koolaid and tea as water. Each to their own opinion.

Try cutting a lemon in half, and squeezing a half lemon into a glass of water. It's pretty tasty, and it's all natural.

But fruit in your water. I swear by it. My favorites are cucumbers, and lemon/limes, and strawberries. Just get a big jug, fill it with water, add your fruit, let it steep for a few hours in the fridge, and VOILA, flavored water with little-to-no calories. :) Just be sure to keep the water cold-ish, or the water gets kind of a bad taste.
  • My boyfriend got me into using Mio as flavoring for water. It doesn't taste amazing, but it's better than nothing. I can't find anything on the bottle to suggest it is high in calories or sugar, either. But it also takes quite a bit for me to be satisfied and I sometimes feel like I'm putting too much in my water. But I can't drink it, otherwise.

I have seen no evidence to suggest getting water by drinking squash/cordial (not sure what it's called in the US) is any worse than drinking plain water - unless your body has an issue with the ingredients, of course. Same for 'soda'.

to get enough water in your system each day takes literally less than 10 seconds a few times a day

you people can talk yourselves into anything

you act like drinking some water is climbing a mountain in a blizzard

quit making it such a big deal

If you made that "Water + Lemon + Sucralose," my chemistry professor would say that it = cancer and/or other health problems.

Lies. Chemistry professors don't deal in cancer.

There is no one single answer to 'Healthy'. For some on here, it might be a high calorie drink. For others, something with no aspartame etc in - for many it's something like Diet Coke, because it gives them the caffiene boost to keep them going while helping them achieve their overall goal of having a leaner body.

I used to drink a lot of soft drinks and found it hard to drink water....initially...

I started with sparkling water but now I love non-carbonated water

My natural thirst has returned....thank god

I drink a lot of sparkling water - Perrier, Mendota Spring, La Croix, etc. I find that it's not as 'boring' as plain water and yet doesn't have much in it. I recently got a soda stream home carbonation machine and really like that too. I gave up all soda about 5 weeks ago, which totally sucked inasmuch as I LOVE soda, but I do feel better. I just read too much bad/frightening stuff about artificial sweeteners and/or soda (the stroke connection is the one that actually made it up, although the connection between soda - regular OR diet - and increased obesity also helped) to keep it up. I still miss it; God knows I miss it terribly! But the sparkling water has helped a lot and, like one of the posters above, my taste for water is coming back. Thankfully.

My gym just posted a recipe for additions to water that actually sounds good:

it’s very easy to make: in water add 1 medium cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced, 1 lemon, thinly sliced, 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger and around 10 spearmint leaves.
leave in the fridge for a few hours or overnight and in the morning you’ll have a cold and really refreshing drink

I'm just waiting for someone to ask if these water substitutes count as part of their daily water intake...

I'm sure this has been stated before but I keep a bag of pre-cut citrus fruit in my fridge for my water (and also to squeeze on my fruit in the morning YUM). I'm much more likely to drink a ton of water this way.
