Seeking friends who've ditched the scale

I'm Joan, age 54, and have struggled with losing & regaining weight since the age of 12. Over time, I have discovered healthier eating and am slowly working toward moderation. I found over the years, that focusing on the scale really sabotages me. I am using measurements to track progress, and in 2 weeks, I have lost 2 inches around the waist & can wear pants that zip & button rather than an elastic waistband. I live in NH, which is very cold & dark this time of year & have struggled with seasonal depression over the years, but exercise really lifts my mood, especially when I can get outdoors to bike or snowshoe. I don't belong to a gym, but do exercise DVDs, both cardio & weights in my basement. I also enjoy walking with my 3 retired racing greyhounds twice each day; they never let me skip a walk! My biggest motivation for reaching & maintaining a healthy weight are my 2 precious grandbabies who were born this year! I want to be around a very long time to enjoy life with them.
Anyways, I know the scale is a great tool for many, and I have already made some wonderful supportive friends here, but I am wondering if there others out there who have found success going scale-free.
Thanks for listening!

  • I'm with you on that! I've struggled with this life-long also and I find I do much better just by tracking the healthy things I eat, rather than go by the scale. I am trying that!!!!!!!! Haven't really stopped jumping on the scale, but am in that mind-set with you. I , too, want to be able to play with my grandchild who is almost 2 and be around for her growing up! Keep it up. I've just joined again, so I'm making a real effort to be on here at least once a week! Thanks,
  • Hi Joan, I am trying to give up being dependent on the scale. I took my measurements this morning and calculated body fat% (needed the scale for that). Started lifting weights this morning. I am planning on measuring every 2 weeks. Sending you a friend request.
  • I've ditched mine! For the most part:) I only weigh before and after vacations/holidays now.
