Too much water can have negative repercussions, but it has to be upwards of 3 gallons (9+ liters). I'm no expert, but I do know that it's more about how much you drink at a time than how much you drink overall. If you drink a liter or two at once, you run the risk of overloading your kidneys. This leads to a condition called water intoxication... aka, too much water in your system. If you aren't drinking it all at once, you should be fine.

I know drinking too much water is harmful, as said it overloads your kidneys. I have always limited myself to between 200-300ml per intake (say one small glass) of room temperature water. I try not to drink water straight from the fridge, I was told that room temp water is absorbed and used by your body in a better way. Not sure how true that is, but I don't like cold water anyway. But for the whole day, I pour a 2 litre jug at breakfast and use it up through the day so it is finished by the time I go to bed.
