I have ibd. Although it's a milder case and I don't seem to be affected too badly by foods, provided I don't eat too much wheat or chilli!
I'm still happy to be your friend and provide support though!0 -
Yep, I was diagnosed with Crohn's in late 2010.0

Hello, I am getting tested to determine if I have Crohns disease, on top of diverticulitius. I have searched for diet plans for ways to lose weight but haven't had much success. I am fustrated because although I have lost inches from my hips and bust; my stomach is still swollen & haven't lost a pound This is very discouraging to me. I had a hysterectomy almost 9 years ago (Dr. thought that was the cause of all my digestional issues & pain- He was wrong!) After my hysterctomy I let myself go, was very depressed cause the pain still persisted and I had to deal with menapause at 29. I was not placed on hormones until last year; which increased my weight especially in my stomach so I took myself off of them (and feel so much better!).
I say all that to say...HELP. I am not sure what to eat. I know I am allergic to all fruit, soy, and whey (to name a few). my calorie intake should be 1200 to lose but I struggle to even reach that due to my diet restrictions but I have tried. I exercise 30+minutes per day w/ only one day off a week.
any suggestions and help would be highly appreciated.
thanks
fustrated yet determined0 -

I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2007. Currently in remission but obviously still taking meds etc. Are you active at the moment? Happy to be added as a friend if you want.0

I have Crohn's. Was diagnosed right before my 16th birthday. (12 years ago!) THANKFULLY... I have been in remission since like 2003-2004ish! My last colonoscopy with last year, summer of 2011. I was SUPER skinny in high school b/c of my Crohn's. I always had the WORST eating habits. Nothing I ate triggered my symptoms since EVERYTHING came right out not long after going in! So I got to eat whatever I wanted. I danced a LOT in high school and was an officer on drill team. (I just made frequent runs to the bathroom!!!!) But the exersice helped to keep the muscle I needed for energy. 12 years later I'm a big fat blob who still has the worst eating habits (trying to change that though!) and I'm super duper lazy when it comes to exercise. I can't blame anything on my disease anymore. I SO wish I would have learned to eat right in high school!0

I was diagnosed in 1996 (I was 13 just entering high school at that time and I had people asking me if I was anorexic ). In 2006 things got so bad I finally had to have resection surgery. I was 24 and my pediatric gastro dr. handed me off the surgeon and didn't really give me any advice for afterwords other than to eat whatever I wanted as long as I felt okay. After almost doubling my original weight dieting has been a major struggle, before it seemed that my competitive swimming and crohns balanced any bad eating habits. And when people tell you to eat healthily they mean salad and seriously what is the point. I have found that the exercise definitely helped my symptoms. I am no longer on the meds because I was tired of taking immuran ( and all the others that came before) and being scared of getting sick all the time and the drugs didn't do much to help stop any episodes. But anyways I totally agree with EmilyMarieMo not learning the good eating habits growing up has definitely been my biggest downfall but I've been working with a trainer and trying to get back on track. I stay away from foods with tomatoes in them as the acidity has a tendency to mess with me, i have salad when I really really want one but otherwise I cook all my vegetables because as people with crohns we are more likely to get more out of at least partially cooked veggies, eating gluten free also helps majorly. Always happy to offer some help and accept ideas0

I was finally diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at 28 but believe I was about 17 when I had the first symptons. I have battled with it for over 30 years and had several resections. For years I watched my weight to try and maintain 55 kilos. The last 15 years I have struggled to lose weight...93 kilos at my heaviest, and 83 currently. Specialists tend to focus on medications and I have my share of regular and experimental drugs. They tend to leave nutritional and diet aspects to Nutritionists, however, in my experience you need to be your own guide as to what types of food you can tolerate, the quantities, and how a relapse impacts on your intake. Low fibre and minimal dairy products when in relapse works for me. I have a scarred and narrowed ileum so have had some excruciatingly painful periods with vomiting after stupidly indulging in raw vegetables..ie, coleslaw, oven baked beetroot. We live and learn.
Despite 3 to 4 relapses per year i have managed to work fulltime and study and raise a family. I was advised by my first specialist to 'work part-time only and be prepared to be unable to hold down a job in the future'. That was said 30 years ago and I ignored the prognosis thankfully. CD needs to be managed well and I've cursed having it, especially when I've missed out on some key events in my life due to this illness but in the main, we develop the expertise to manage it.
Happy to be added as a friend and to give and receive support.0 -
Will Lactose Intolerance do?....I have a VERY finicky digestion and it DOES make losing weight more challenging!!!0

I have Crohn's. Was diagnosed 17 years ago.0

I was diagnosed in 2007. Eating better has without a doubt helped my symptoms!0

I have Crohn's...diagnosed 10 years ago @ age 30. Right now i am controlling it pretty well with gluten-free diet. I have been med free since my last surgery (fistula) in 2009. Keeping a food diary really helps me keep track of my triggers. Weight management (gain and loss) are very tricky with this disease. I have learned LOTS about my body as a result. Feel free to friend me if you wish!0

I am the wife of a "Crohnie"--I will help anyone however I can.0

Well done you. Working and kids. I Can't get off the drugs. Currently have a flare on drugs. Feel really tired and hate my body. I'm keeping a diary on MFP hoping for some motivation and self understanding. My Prof wants me to do elemental diet and I tried but it was so debilitating I only lasted four days. I will try again when the kids go back to school. I wish they would give me surgery but they won't only drugs. All advice would be gratefully received.0

So glad this thread exists! I was diagnosed in 2009, and have Remicaid infusions every 5 wks to keep it at bay. Crohn's (and what has come with it for me: hypothyroid and RA) has made living and eating a bit trickier. Having said that, living a healthy and active life certainly seems to help me feel better both physically and emotionally.0

I have Crohns disease as well (36 yrs. old diagnosed when I was 20). I started Humira a couple of months ago and feel like I am finally becoming normal again. However, I did gain about 7 lbs once I started (it could be that I was just a little too low in weight to begin with....I don't know). I just want to lose 5 lbs. be strong, and stop getting sick all the time. I train for snow shoe races, half marathons, cycling centuries, you name it. I love being fit. Now I want to be strong (and have a few less trips to the bathroom )0

I've been diagnosed with crohns 15 years ago, been really battling to lose weight. Been on a long course of prednisone didn't help either..finding it truly difficult to understand and working around restricted diets.. any tips would be great, any low carb that doesn't contain leavy greens, raw vegetables and fruits, corn, beans, cabbage etc etc... what's left... meat... hmmm oh yes... and soup... :ohwell: it will great to have a fellow crohnie on my buddy list.. :bigsmile:0

I am a Crohnie! I have to admit when I read about the disease and it said that people lost a lot of weight because of it, I was a little happy at first! But, what they don't tell you is that if you are already fat, get diagnosed, and get put on Prednisone, you balloon, not lose! I am now 20lbs heavier than my all time heaviest weight, and I have moon face. My knees and lower back hurt from just standing in the kitchen long enough to microwave dinner. I am currently in a flare. I am on Prednisone (tapered up and down for the last 6 months straight now), Humira (this is new, only a month on it), dicyclomine (for intestinal spasms), sucralfate (to protect my stomach from being on the Pred for so long), ondansatron meltable tablets (for nausea), and pain medication for the adbominal pain. I was happy to find you guys! My older sister is on here, and she told me about this thread. I will accept friend requests from any Crohnies!0
