Talk to me about soy yogurt...

I keep trying to like dairy but dairy hates me. Lactaid never works 100% of the time and I've pretty much cut out most dairy that I eat. I realize that this isn't entirely healthy. I miss yogurt. I mean, I love(d) yogurt so much. I know they say to help with an intolerance to eat smaller amounts of dairy and slowly build up. I just, well, I just can't. My stomach is too painful and bloated and just icky after eating regular yogurt.

So, after all of that, my question is.... do any of you regularly eat soy yogurt? What kinds are good? What kinds should I stay away from? In my small amount of research I noticed that values between soy yogurt and milk yogurt aren't too far off so it might be a good alternative.

  • I have heard really cruddy things about soy. so I try and limit mine. I don't eat dairy products at all. I am mostly vegan. I enjoy almond yogurt with fresh fruit though.

Hmm I will have to check out almond yogurt. For me it's mainly to get some calcium without having to take a supplement since I really don't get any calcium anymore since I don't eat dairy. Soy is iffy for me. Organic is fine but with non organic then you deal with all of the GM crap that I do not want to eat.

    Thanks for the input!
  • i regularly eat dairy free products, and eat soya yoghurt almost everyday. its delicious. i have dairy intolerance too - it causes me to have rashes, that can be set off within a day of eating dairy. i've managed to cut it out almost completely, with the occasional small amount of cheese or butter eaten if its 'worth it' lol (i LOVE cheese).

For yoghurts i tend to go for 'ALPRO' as i personally think its the bets one. soya yoghurt is so creamy, and i think its better than normal dairy yoghurts. i also drink soya milk, almond milk, and hazelnut milk too. they go great in teas, coffees, cereals... everything really!

They're all good, but i find nutritionally, when talking about shop-brought dairy free products, soya items are more nutritionally rich. Higher in calcium and vitamins.

i hope this helps, if theres anything else, feel free to ask! :D

Almond milk has the same if not more calcium per cup as cow's milk.
