Microwave Oatmeal?

Can it work in the microwave? I mean, besides those sugary little instant packets. I have high cholesterol and wanted to try eating oatmeal at least a few days a week. My doctor suggested steel cut oats with almond milk, but can that be done in the microwave? I'm not hungry until after I get to work.
Any suggestions? And any recipes are welcome.

I make steel cut oatmeal in the slow cooker overnight and then divide it in smaller portions and freeze them. I use 1 1/2 cups steel cut oats, 4 cups water and 2 cups milk. I cook it on low for 6-7 hours. There are many recipes online, but I like to make it plain and then do different variations when I heat it up. You could take the frozen oatmeal to work.0

I microwave my oatmeal every morning, but I use rolled oats. I don't see why you couldn't do steel cut. Use the recipe amounts on the package. I'd try it at about 3 minutes, then check it , stir, and put it in for a minute at a time until it's the consistency you like. I'd make it with water and put the milk on after it's cooked. Although I guess you can cook the oatmeal in milk. I've never tried it. I've also made overnight oatmeal with steel cut oats. much chewier, but good.0

Yes you can! I always microwave my oatmeal, I have no patience for stove top cooking haha. Just put in double the amount of water as you do oats. (1 cup oats = 2 cups water)
but like the others said, it does overflow!0 -
I microwave my oatmeal every morning, so I don't know why someone would say it doesn't work...? I don't eat the sugary packets, either. I eat the rolled oats from the big Quaker tub.
1/2 c dry oats
1 c water
1 tbs pure maple syrup
dash of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice
microwave on high 1:30, stir, heat an additional 30 seconds.
That's how I always make my oatmeal and it comes out perfect every morning.0 -
NFW...be good to you and cook them. Microwaves are horrible.0
