Reminder - Christmas is only one day!!

After seeing a number of threads popping up about Christmas, I just wanted to remind everyone, it's just one day!
December 25th
That's it.
So, for that one day, don't worry about logging, counting calories or exercising your butt off to justify one extra roast potato. Eat what you are happy with and enjoy the day.
I really do think that some people take diet too far, it shouldn't impact on a special occasion. Enjoy this one special day and get back to MFP on Boxing Day (it even sounds like a healthier day...there really should be a giant Boxercise class on Dec 26th!)
I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and here's to a fit & healthy New Year!!! xx

I agree you should enjoy Christmas but hopefully if you've been counting calories here you've learned a thing or two about eating and don't make it a day to eat until the button blows off your pants either. Enjoying a day/meal doesn't have to be all about stuffing yourself.0

Totally agree, that's why I say eat what you're happy with.

Completely agree!! The actualy holiday day does not scare me. It's all the crap being fed our way leading up to Christmas and then New Year's Eve. I'm staying strong though...:drinker:0

Christmas may only be ONE day, but it's the entire season. There is always food everywhere. There are multiple family and friend holiday gatherings to attend. It's definitely a tough season for those who struggle with food.....most likely most of us, hence why we're on this site. I know personally, just next weekend (the weekend before Christmas) I have a holiday potluck luncheon at work on Friday, I have a Christmas party on both Saturday and Sunday, we have a family Christmas party with unreal amounts of food every year on Christmas Eve, then I have two Christmas dinners to attend on Christmas day for my family and my husband's family. I'll be happy if I make it through with only gaining 5 lbs!! Lol... it's easy to say forget about Christmas day and enjoy it, but you're talking about a holiday season that is celebrated longer than just 1 day...and then there is New Year's Eve to get through as many parties are hosted for that, as well!!!
Do your best. That's all you can do. But don't forget to enjoy the season!0 -
Crap, I started in October :grumble:0
-
I'm going to stick to my 1200 calorie limit, Christmas will not get the best of me0
-
Christmas will make me fat. Somebody give me some butter right now!0

For my household Christmas is a string of events. I don't stress but I make sure I get in a good work out on the days we have parties. So far that's been managable and I'm maintaining this season rather then gaining! It's more about the cute little outfits for me this year then it is the food. Refocus the mind... not stress and keep on keepin on0

This is true. We had a snack day on Tues for my dept and this afternoon is our casual company christmas party with snack type stuff. This week I'm feeling crapy because Tuesdays food had way to much fat for my body to handle(in a sense, yeah! It means my body is changing) but I realize this is just a short term situation and does not really effect my long term goals. One day or even a week does not make or break our long term goals. We just have to remember during this time that if we are not truly hungry, don't eat. Keep a low calorie drink in your hand and sip instead of eating.0 -
I agree with the poster who said 'its a whole season' - one day is fine, its the 10 friends you haven't seen all year who invite you for coffee and mince pies... The wife's family gathering, my families big gathering, the works do, the new years eve party, the new years day fry up.... And at each one people will tell you 'its just one day'.
My advice - most of the time if you say nothing and eat a small amount people leave you alone... its only if you make a point of refusing people put pressure on you (mostly through their own guilt).
the nice thing about being part of a running community is that many of my friends see going out for a morning-after 5 miler as being a social event rather than anti-social behaviour. It makes it much easier to balance my overall intake and have a good time as well.
In summary - exercise is fun - good food in moderation is fine - don't let anyone else tell you what you should or shouldn't eat and most of all make sure you enjoy the seasons festivities - regardless of how much you do or don't eat!0 -
christmas is the whole month.
youre welcome.0 -
No, it's 12. There's even a song about it.0
-
I plan on having lobster, dungeon crab - twice baked potato and salad - for dessert - either cheese cake or red velvet cake - not sure.... Oh - I forgot WINE! LOL!!!!!0

Christmas starts Dec 1st and ends on the 27th.0

Except that The Holiday Season starts with Halloween and continues until Superbowl Sunday. The weight gain is more than just one day, or a few meals and parties.0

True. The partridge doesn't sound too fattening but those 6 geese a laying will send you way over your calorie limit. Unless you join those ladies dancing and lords-a-leaping. Sounds like a pretty good workout.0 -
Wrong. It's two days for me this year.12/25 and 12/17 when my sissio comes up from Maryland.0

Christmas starts Dec 1st and ends on the 27th.
Which is in January....
I'm gonna gain it all back :sad:0 -

ditto! Well said.0 -
I'm going to stick to my 1200 calorie limit, Christmas will not get the best of me
I know that is right, just like I did for Thanksgiving!!!0 -
Wrong, Christmas starts the day after Thanksgiving and eats on New Year's Day.0

Same... Just because it's a holiday doesn't mean I HAVE to go over my calories. The food will still be there on the 26th.0 -
YES! Enjoy the day with family and maybe even friends.0

Not worried about that...I'll be wearing my stretchy pants :noway: Not really, I'll enjoy myself but I've actually never really enjoyed being full to the point of feeling ill. My stomach has shrunk quite a bit as well, so I doubt I'll be able to shovel it in like I used to. I'm likely to have a few to many libations which will put me over my calories for the day...but I agree with the OP, it's just a day...enjoy it.0 -
Im aiming for 3500 calories on Christmas - personal record, just saying.0
-
Not in my family it's not. We have a ton of feast days BEFORE the 25th. So Christmas is a season and it goes on until the New Year.0
-
It's all balance isn't it !!! Enjoy ALL the feasts, parties and festivities ...... Life is for living after all !!! There is a teeny thing called moderation that can allow you to enjoy all the naughty yumminess (without eating like the worlds ending) without spoiling all your efforts....... Although the world is ending on 21st isn't it ????? Pass me the sausage rolls
I'm planning in eating gorgeous food and drinking lots of wine ...... But will bust my *kitten* with workouts to burn it off :drinker:
Merry Christmas x0
