I know Yoga helps you relax and stretch but does yoga help you loose weight as well? Thanks!

Yoga while not a high calorie burning activity benefits you by building a strong core & stabilization muscles. 1lb of muscle burns calories faster than 1lb of fat so the answer to your question is yes yoga will help you lose weight. I actually do yoga twice a week and it's even more important when I'm training for a race when I need to recruit all those small muscle fibers to help me through a 2 hour race.
I find this to be similar for Pilates as well.

    Hope this helps

    Namaste

  • All yoga will build muscle and make you feel awesome :) If you are looking for a more cardio type workout to burn calories try Vinyasa or Ashtanga types, they will get you sweating and make you strong :)
  • hot yoga is awesome for losing weight, as is any sort of power yoga where you're working hard to build strength. because you're using your own body weight for strength moves, you can progress at your own pace. hot yoga was my major activity over the last 3 months / 50 lbs.

It's not the way to weight loss but it does make you quite aware of your body, and add strength, flexibility and balance.

That's an amazing weight loss. I had always thought the weight loss in hot yoga was largely water but I have to rethink baased on your excellent weight loss - I am guessing that was also eating at a deficit of course, but - way to go!

I was suppose to try Yoga tonight but something came up- personally i LOVE Pilates. It doesnt have high cal burn (either one) but it does make you feel stretched out and good after!
