Hi, I have only been on here for a week or two and I thought I was doing really well until today :-(

I need to lose a stone so I've cut out all my sweet treats and wine and I've been eating really healthy and doing an hour of kundalini yoga a day (which is really hard). I also walk everywhere.
Last week I lost two pound and I was really happy with that but when I weighed in this morning, I had gained a pound which I just don't understand and when stuff like this happens you just feel like 'what's the point?' I'm missing out on chocolate and wine and yoga-ing myself to death and I'm still putting on !!!
Aggghhh
Did this happen to anyone else? Any advice is much appreciated in advance

Don't worry, I do this all the time and then a few weeks later 1-2 kilos drop off, women carry water around because of hormones, you are doing the right thing, stick with it!
  • Rosies right! We're woman. The point is to be healthy. Stupid things like the darn phases of the moon or hormone levels affect us and we have no control over that! Soooo.....over a longer period of time you'll be able to see the benefits more clearly. If you want to see them sooner join a spin class and do hi intensity aerobics. Relax girl, it'll happen if youre treating your body right.

you didnt put a stone on in 2 or 3 weeks, you wont get it off in 2 or 3 weeks...

patience (and a calorie deficit) is key to losing weight!

keep at it and you will see results!

Thanks everyone, I know you're right and I feel silly for stressing about a pound now ha ha. I'm just impatient but I know it will take time... just have to stick at it and be a bit determined :-)

it takes time, but if you keep it up, it WILL happen! try and condition your mind not to demand instant results...adopt the healthy lifestyle and avoid the scales...better measures of progress is measurements and how your clothes become too big for you :-)

What everyone here is saying is completely on point. The community here is helping me because I get moments of "oh, why am I even bothering!?" ...and then I see someone who logged on for X days and am reminded that slow, steady progress is the goal, not immediate weight loss.

I didn't see anyone ask if perhaps you have replaced fat with muscle due to that high-intensity yoga? Muscle is smaller than fat, but weighs more. Gaining muscle IS progress.

Don't stress yourself out. Sometimes alternating with another workout or possible increasing your calorie intake just a little may help.

I will agree that yes hormones play a very large role in water retention at different times of the month. You can help with this by drinking stinging nettle tea or dandelion tea (or traditional medicines PMS tea for 10 days before TTOM is expected).

The other thing to look at is your sodium intake...are you getting a lot of sodium and are you drinking enough water? If you are taking in a bit of sodium and are not drinking enough water; you're going to retain every drop of fluid taken in...I know it sounds funny but, the more water you drink the less your body holds on to.

Remember this is a life time change and not a short time fix....so do not make changes that you will not be able to continue or will not WANT to continue for life. If 1 hour of yoga is too much; reduce it or find something else you would enjoy more. It's only been 2 weeks....you will need to stay the course for much longer to see real changes.
