I commit to NO FAST FOOD for the rest of 2012

This AM I overslept and didn't have time to make my omlette that I have come to like. Instead I went for the stand-by McDonald's sausage biscuit and diet coke. I know it is so bad for me but it tastes so good! I need to remember how breakfast sets the tone for the rest of my day and I know it makes me feel bloated afterwards. I want to try to have an option at work, like instant oatmeal, that could be available if needed. It's not my favorite but it's better than the alternative. I want to challenge myself to not eat any fast food for the rest of 2012. If push comes to shove and I HAVE to eat fast food, I'll choose a salad. Anyone else deal with this struggle of the convenience of fast food?

I have accepted the calories in vs calories out proven scientific study, and even proven it in my own weight loss. You dont need to cut out fast food, just overeating energy.0

I think this idea is a great one! Like any habit, once you stop doing it for 2-3 weeks you don't want it anymore!
Now, this requires planning on weekends, but what I do for breakfasts lately because I like to have protein in the morning and less carbs - keeps me full longer, less likely to want more carbs, etc, is make egg muffins with egg substitute (you can use real eggs, I'm just lazy) and whatever veggies you want to add chopped up (or cheese, or bacon bits, etc). Pour the "batter" into sprayed muffin cups. Bake at 425 for 25 minutes. Put them in serving sizes in baggies and stick them in the fridge. When you are going out the door, grab them, take them to work, zap them in the microwave for 1 minute. Instant breakfast! I eat 2 of those and while that is cooking on a Sunday I cook up enough Jenni O turkey sausage to go along with it - 2 Egg Muffins and 2 links of Jenni O turkey sausage typically run me under 200 calories for breakfast and I feel like I'm eating out!0 -
instant oatmeal
I hate to be the one to break this to you...0 -
I had an Egg McMuffin this morning. There are way worse choices I could have made.0

I plan to make that same commitment 2 weeks from today.0

Sure, I'm in. This will be an easy one for me. I think most of it taste like crap so rarely eat it..0

Wait.....what are you guys doing? ...I'm back out.0 -
I'll second the egg muffins (only with real eggs) - great grab and go food. Also, hard boiled eggs or homemade granola pre portioned into bags.
Once you get away from eating fast food, you'll wonder why you ever did. It really doesn't taste very good.0 -
If time permits, there's always the option to make your own.0

Not really true. The other day I didn't eat until 5pm.
I ended up at McDonalds ording a Big Mac, small
fries, and a water. Although I can count on one
hand the times I've been to McDonalds in 2012,
it was still good!!!!!! The sausage with egg and
cheese still rocks. I can work off the calories, it's
the sodium that gets to me...0 -

Watch out for those "salads" at fast food restaurants...0

I think it's a fantastic way to challenge yourself for the rest of the month. I'll be interested to hear about what contingency plans you come up with for last minute situations. Best of luck!0

My personal opinion, for what it's worth, is that one should avoid McDonalds at all costs.
As to your breakfast comment, I don't have any good answers. I stop by Qwik Trip and get two donuts when I don't have time to eat breakfast at home, so I've got the same problem there that you do.0 -
While some of you mock her regarding whether you can eat fast food or not, I will be one to say, I gave up my McDonald's breakfast burritos a month ago in a mini challenge with some of my friends on here. It wasn't easy, but I haven't had one since. I still go every morning and get my Diet Coke, but I have no desire to even order the burritos. Last Friday I had an appointment and no time to eat breakfast before I left. I ordered an egg McMuffin, with no egg (so basically canadian bacon, cheese and the muffin) and while it's low in calories, I was ready to eat my arm by 10am that morning (an hour after I ordered it!)
To the OP: If this is a mini-challenge that works for you, go for it. I won't give up my chopped chicken salad at Subway,a dn since I"ve been informed that Subway is fast food, I guess I can't join you.0 -

I make my own batch of burrito mix, then I'm all set!

You rock! Thank you for that recipe...copying it now so I can attempt to make a batch tomorrow.0

I can do this! Although, I'm the world's worst for Hardees Sausage and Egg biscuit!
I might try the burrito recips, minus the onion!0 -
Good for you! I rarely eat fast food, and when I do it's a Subway 6-inch turkey breast on wheat or one of their bacon and eggwhite English muffins, with no cheese or I get a salad at Wendy's with no cheese.
You'll feel so much better giving up all the greasy, gross fast food. I'm trying to get my family to understand that giving up the drive-thru's that they used to love so much will make them feel better. We used to go to a drive-thru a few nights a week because it was easy. Now they can go all they want, but I will stick around home and make my own food!0 -
Mind boggling to me that anything that comes from McD's tastes good.0

I'm making it right now. Cook the bacon off first.
Then saute what ever veggies you want to use.
Add the bacon in. Beat eggs with some seasoning,
and kind make a scram slam out of it.
To prepare:
Nuke a couple of scoops in a bowl for one minute,
then nuke a couple of fajitas with a half of slice of
swiss on each tortilla for about 12 seconds.
Here's the mix I just made. 2 fajitas makes a
good little meal, 1 makes for a quick snack.
Top with slasa, pico, whatever you want.
Plus it's got bacon!

Just remember, even McDonald's salads are calorie dense. It might be even a lot "healthier" to eat a burger than a salad from there.0

I used to be too lazy to make my own lunch, so i would end up at McD frequently during lunch...I would use stupid excuses in my head like, "It's ok every once in a while..." but every once in a while was frequently three times a week. I go to McD now pretty much just to get coffee...but the McRib is back...don't know if I can resist.
I eat Jimmy Dean Turkey sausage for breakfast...it's not really that bad tasting.0
