30 Day Shred: Now or later?

I'm just beginning my weight loss journey so I'm not sure if I should jump right into doing the 30DS or wait until I've lost a bit of weight and use it for toning purposes. It's always something that I have wanted to do because I know people get great results and it would be an achievement for me! Opinions?

I did 30DS right when I started out, it was def hard but doable. You will get stronger trust me, when I was on lvl 1 my first few days I NEVER thought I could finish the whole thing much less do the advanced moves but I stuck with it and have finished it twice through and do everything advanced =D

I would give it a try. I just did day 1. When I bought this DVD several months ago I couldn't do 5 jumping jacks without stopping. Today I gave it a shot and made it thru it. All you can do is try:)

I did originally think like you, and I was going to wait. However, a few weeks in and I started it. Its really good and in just 11 days I have lost inches all over and as others have said, although it is tough and I could hardly walk after the first two sessions, from about day 3 the soreness disappeared and since I just have slightly aching muscles, which I like as I know I have worked them.

Jump in and start up that video, you won't regret it.

Start it!! It may be hard to finish certain parts BUT it is only 25mins.. we can all suck it up for 25mins :) When it all seems too hard, don't stop completely, take a 10sec breather and continue, you will see the results after a week!
    Goodluck!

Try it! I was about 240lbs when I went through the shred, it was hard but I was able to do it.

I'm on Level 1, Day 5 & feeling much better. I would recommend just giving it a try! I have been walking for the past few weeks and although I'm not classify as an absolute beginner in cardio land....I would say I am a beginner in Jillian cardio-land. LOL I'm not sure if that makes sense but that is how I think of it.

I do the modified moves and little 5 second breaks if needed. I already feel stronger and I'm not nearly as sore as I was on days 1 & 2. It is hard.....but totally doable & you feel really accomplished later! I just keep chanting to myself....I CAN DO IT...ITS JUST 20-25 MINUTES.....& think of the results....ha ha!

Oh & I also have to seriously give myself a pep talk before pushing play on the dvd player. lol :ohwell:

30DS is what got me back into working out. Once I stuck the full 30 days, I knew I could do anything. I've then completed P90x, Brazil Butt Lift. Right now I'm back doing 30DS a 3rd time because it works. Next on my list is Turbo Fire, then Insanity.

Like everyone else is saying, I feel doing it as best you can is what's important. Sure the video may not be for beginners, but you can modify some of the exercises done. Take breaks as needed.

Just don't over-do it because you feel you have to do every jumping jack or each push-up in sync without missing a beat like they do.

    That's how I've been doing it. :)

Do it NOW! DO as much as you can, but start. It's never too soon to get moving, and the program has an 'easier' version of most exercises that you can try.

Don't wait. Life moves on. Don't let it pass you by.

This sounds like an interesting program. I will check it out. I need to change up my routine.
  • Thanks, everyone! I'm excited to start now :) when you all did it, did you do it everyday or did you give yourself rest days?

I tried to do it straight through, but there were a few days I couldn't manage the time. It took me 40 days to complete the DVD. I've been thinking about doing it again after the first of the year. I lost 12 inches the last time.

I made it to day 6, got a chest infection and am starting from scratch today. Not looking forward to it because it hurt, but it has to be done! I started at 300 pounds so you can do it.

Why put off till tomorrow what you can do today. Since you're not even guaranteed a tomorrow, you might as well take advantage of the now and just do it!

I agree, do as much as you can now. Don't feel bad if you have to modify some things, just keep moving and it will get easier. I know she says there is no modification for jumping jacks, but if they are so difficult that you quit, that's no good, so jog in place instead. Whatever you need to do to get through.

I did take rest days. Now after trying some other workouts, I still use this workout a few times a week.
