  • Well done, I would drop the Gatorade too & go with plain ol' H2O..... maybe a slice of lemon in it so its not too blah..... PLENTY of fresh fruits & Vegetables, try not to have too many processed foods, try to do at least 30 mins of exercise a day walking is a great start.
I weigh measure & log EVERYTHING I eat or drink..... watch your macros ( carbs, protein, sugar etc....).
    Good luck

Well you have come to the right place, MFP is a awesome tool that can really help you lose weight. giving up Pop is a good idea but only if you are ready to do it. I have found that when you "give up" something that makes you want it more and more, this is about living healthy and getting in better shape not about sacrifice, you need to be able to eat this way for the rest of your life not just until you can hit 225. So my advice is , if you love pop, then cut back to 1 a day or switch to diet, drink lots of water and keep your calories within your guidelines on MFP. good luck to you, you can do it.

If you are so 'addicted' to soda that you think of it as something to give up, it might be better to just cut back slowly. Maybe alternate a soda with a glass of water for a week or two. Then one soda, two glasses of water. Etc. If you enjoy sweet drinks, try diluting some real fruit juice with a bit of water to cut back on the sugar. And again, still alternate with plain fresh water.

Changing old habits is hard. I personally don't believe that changes have to be made all at once, overnight. I think that opens the door for backsliding and slip-ups. Allow your body to adjust to the change, and you'll be more likely to stick with it. Cutting out sugary drinks suddenly will leave you craving the sugar, and you're likely to binge. Let your body (and taste buds) get used to less sugar, and you'll find that you start to crave unsweetened things.

Drink water or green tea not artificial rubbish, eat real food not processed rubbish with long ingredients lists. Things that fill you up include fibre, water, protein and to a lesser extent fats. You can change the MFP settings to track different nutrients if you wish. Certain nutrients are associated with reduced bodyfat as well as general health: omega-3s in oily fish, calcium in dairy, antioxidants in certain produce. So sunflower seeds and apples are good - pumpkin seeds (omega-3s, minerals) and berries (low sugar, antioxidants) are better.

So have nine or ten servings of low sugar fruits and non starchy veggies a day in the full rainbow of colours, three portions of reduced fat dairy a day, lean protein at every meal or snack, healthy fats little and often including oily fish regularly. That is a lot of food but if you are still hungry add in modest portions low glycaeminc index whole carbs like barley, beans and lentils. Cut out or down on sugar, white refined carbs, processed wheat products, sugary fruits and white potatoes because these can all spike and trough your blood sugar contributing to cravings. Junky processed stuff should comprise no more than 10% of daily calories.
