Have anyone tried acupuncture for weight loss?

I am really looking into trying acupuncture for weight loss and I also hear it helps for PCOS ( Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Has anyone tried this?

Hmm. So I guess you decided against doing it the "natural" way.

What's wrong with using an alternative therapy to help the process? There's no drugs involved, no surgery, no fad diet or massive calorie restriction. It's just a few tiny needles. It's not unhealthy and isn't going to harm her in any way. So what's the problem?

    Gonna poke the fat away?

well acupuncture can help reduce stress by a significant margin, so why not? I wouldn't say to only do this, but if its in addition to eating better and exercising.. why not?

Acupuncture can be extremely effective in helping with certain medical conditions. Maybe it will help with weight loss, maybe it won't. But there's no harm in trying it out.

II did try it to lower my Cortisol levels and it works. Of course it’s only a compliment to diet and exercise. I got the needles in the back during my visit, and what my Acupuncturist called “acupuncture to go” which was small pins in the ear covered with tape. The only down side was he made me give up coffee lol!

Having to give up coffee is a dealbreaker. That immediately crosses acupuncture off my list of things to try.

I did! I went for regulating my hormones and weight loss. From March to now, I lost 30 pounds, no lie! You do have to find a good acupuncturist, though. A lot are pretty useless

I did it for TMJ (trans manible jaw something or other) and it totally worked.

I also did it for when I used to have anxiety and that seemed to help as well.

I'm not sure it would work for losing weight, though it might help for cravings. I intended to do it for quitting smoking but I ended up just quitting on my own without acupuncture.

It does feel kinda weird though, I will give you that. But it shouldn't be discounted as possible solution. It was actually a dental specialist (mainstream) who recommended the accupuncture for the TMJ

edit: TMJ is Temporomandibular joint disorder - pain in your jaw not what I said earlier.

I've had acupuncture to help with PCOS and pregnancy.

I asked my acupuncture-r "have you got a needle to help with weight-loss" and his response was "only you can stop eating."

I'm not sure what it would have to do with weight loss, but it did wonders when I threw my lower back out. There is no harm in trying it, but I would still suggest a calorie deficit and exercise.

Wow.. way to be a jerk. It's not like she is adding tons of chemicals into her body or going to get surgery. Seriously, get a damn grip.. That's like saying that if she wanted to get massages monthly to lower her stress level and help with her weight loss, she wouldn't be doing it "the natural way". Really? Or say she wanted to drink warm milk and go to bed earlier to get extra sleep to help lose weight it wouldn't be "natural". Keep your negative comments to yourself. People are here to succeed, we don't need people bashing us for wanting to try more things to help.

    Rant over.

Although it's not my comment, I believe it stems from another post by the OP around the same time in which the OP asked if people were taking medications to help with weight loss-and stated that he/she was going to try the "natural" approach which he/she defined as just diet & exercise. Out of context, it seems a little harsh, but in the context of an OP who seems to be in search of a magical pill/potion to "help" (or perhaps in lieu of diet/exercise?), it's really not that bad. I don't think the person who put that has anything against acupuncture or anything else-more pointing out that when no one offered the miracle pill to "help", this acupuncture thread popped right up (no mention in this one that the op is going to try diet & exercise though...).

OP is welcome to try whatever he/she wants, but hoping he/she gets the message the magic potion/pill to "help" weight loss is good old fashioned diet & exercise.

I am a huge fan of acupuncture!! Have never tried it for fat loss so unsure on whether it can help you or not but it can't hurt to make an appointment with a practitioner and have a chat

I have never used it for that but I had extremely good luck with acupuncture years ago for something else. I think it could definitely help if you have problems with binge eating or major craving troubles. A lot of people use it to quit smoking. Find a good practitioner and give it a go, why not?
